I have a set of stock 16" X 4.5" rims and a set of 16" X 6" steel rims from a mid 70's FSJ. I am planning on fitting Interco IROK ND tires on the wider wheels. The IROKS are 235/85/R16 size. They show 31.7" diameter and 9.1" cross section on their specs when mounted on a 6.5" wide rim. My tire supplier says 6" rims will be no problem. My experience with tire specs is that the actual, mounted diameter with be 1/2" to 1" :ESS than the spec, so I expect these tires to measure about 31" when mounted, and my Willys seems to have plenty of room for this size tire.

The backspacing on my narrower rims is just under 4" - the FSJ rims are about 5" so I know I will need spacers. I am trying to decide if I should get 1" steel spacers or 1.5" spacers for these wider rimes. I don't want to handicap myself with tires that would seriously compromise turning radius, not to I want to have the tires stick out far past the wheel wells.

Some advice (and photos?) from people running larger tires with spacers on their 2As would be very helpful before I spend yet more money on tires, spacers, etc.

    Thanks,

    Mike

PS: Here is the Jeep as it sits now with 29X9.50X15 which measure 28".

Personally I would just mount them on the Jeep and see how it works from there. I ran 31x10.50s for years and had minimal rubbing issues. Last winter I put 7.00x15s on, lots of rubbing on the springs. The backspacing is the issue.
