Could you just go to a newer style Warn hub?

I didn't think of that because tearing down and restoring/rebuilding these hubs was one of the first things I accomplished almost five years ago....what would you recommend I look at instead?

The problem is the front hubcaps. My Tux turbine full hubcaps have a 4 3/8" center hole to accomodate the hubs. I know the C101 Commando had dogdish hubcaps that fit over Warn hubs. I used to have a Jeepster with both of them.
Your hubcaps may be designed to fit the Wagoneers that had the small chrome plain caps on the end of the spindle, Quadratrac?

I was thinking this style might work since they look like they might taper in farther down the hub body? Just thinking outloud.

Thanks for the additional info. Pretty sure I'm going to leave the hubs as-is since I took the trouble to rebuild them. If I can get the caps I have to work, great, if not I'll sell them to someone else and find some that fit. If I make them a jig out of wood or HD foam to hold them securely I can probably use the CNC machine at the roundhouse to widen the hole to 4-3/8" with not much trouble.

Wheels came in, looking pretty! Now I need to figure out a place where I can squirt some primer and paint on these where it’s warm enough… 5455D9D0-CEFF-47D7-8A82-E32FC0111C97.jpeg 05138C7A-8DA8-41F4-A2E3-6F59465FAA81.jpeg

Self etching primer and then Rust Oleum Antique White, as I’ve been told that pretty close to “correct” for 1966….

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but should I paint ALL surfaces of the wheels, including the insides that will be inside the tires?

@Fireball my Duplicolor self-etching primer says min temp of 60F and the Rustoleum Antique White topcoat says min temp of 50. It's supposed to be 58 and sunny here today, and I'm inclined to go for it this afternoon since I have the day off. Do you think I'm good to go even if I'm a few degrees colder out than specc'ed?

I've painted Rustoleum in similar temps before with no issues. Just takes longer to dry. On the gloss Rustoleum paints read the directions carefully for allowable time between coats. If you do the second coat too late, it can start to pull up the previous coat and make a wrinkle finish. Been there done that. Very frustrating.

Either you do the second coat soon enough or you need to wait a week for the first coat to fully cure.

I feel your pain. I am running some unknown wheels (likely Ford) with aftermarket caps that I had bored out for the fronts and to glue in a Jeep center for the rear. Then I found out they didn't clear my discs without a spacer. I have given serious thought to having Stockton make me a set of wheels, and you have done all of the hard part by testing them out. That said, I would say please do not cut into the NOS hubcaps that you have, for many reasons, the most obvious being that they are impossible to find. Get a decent used pair, have them cut, and polish the crap out of them, and you will still have a pair of NOS front caps in your parts stash. Just my two cents.

@fesser I do agree it will feel sacrilegious to cut the front two caps....

Got a good solid coat of self etching primer on, then another coat of white sandable primer. It took 4 cans of SE and 3 cans of white (could have used a 4th, FLAPS only had three). Temps look to be in the 40s all weekend so I'm stuck waiting for things to warm up to do the top coat. Plenty of time to sand them though.

I did something very similar to what you're doing. 15x8 steelies, withAMC Era dog dish caps. Tires are 33x10.50-15. I love the look! I can tell you that the newer style Warn hubs will work with your hubcaps.

Those factory-looking steelies look terrific. I didn't see a price posted for that set? Been looking at smoothies for next tire set but hose look really nice and would be "right" for the Super Jeep.

    Craigslist.
There's no markings on them but they look like the Coker wheels referenced at the start of this thread.
