I just picked up a set of 16" steel wheels that fit the early CJ bolt pattern. There is an extra hole (1) around the lug area. It is a factory hole, the guy I bought them from said that it was a military wheel and the hole was for adjusting the brakes. I never saw anything like that before. Does anyone have any idea what vehicle these came on?

I will get some pictures up ASAP, most likely in the am. The wheels look just like a regular CJ 16", but have that hole. I know lots of vehicles used that pattern, just curious though.

Many of the M38 rims, Korean era militerized CJ3A, had that small hole but I doubt you could adjust anything through it. It showed up on other jeeps as that was an era that everything got used.

thanks. I hope to get a picture up here. I have not seen any CJ drums with adjuster holes on the front side, but I am no early CJ expert.

The adjusting screw is on the backside of the drum isn't it? How would a hole in the wheel allow access to that?

I've never seen one with a 3/4" hole, although I have seen ones (16" rims) with a small hole like 3/16 or 1/4" in the lug hole flange area. No idea what it is for though.

Yeah they look interesting. A guy on G503 said that the ones with the 1/4 holes are M38 rims, but was not sure what the ones with the bigger holes were. I am going to use them on my CJ/DJ, with some 6.50 x 16 mud grips.

They look like early Motor Wheel rims but not w/ the 1/4" hole and not the flanged edge around the inner wheel like the wagon wheels.
