Whats your tricks?

    I am gathering parts/info for my 47 CJ-2A. I want to put a low pressure electric pump in place of stock mechanical fuel pump. I also have heard that you can swap larger brake cylinders in place of stock brake cylinders. I think they came off of 70's Ford trucks.

    I was also thinking about swapping in a different oil filter. Maybe a remote oil filter kit would work? Then I could get rid of the cartridges and won't have to drain the oil cup. Along with that I was thinking of replacing the air box to get rid of the oil bathe setup.

    Let me know what you have done and give me some suggestions!

    I can't help you any on the brake upgrades. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a 1971 CJ D44 rear with the 30 spline one-piece axles and larger brakes, as well as a 1974 CJ D30 open-knuckle front axle, also already equipped with larger brakes. Just waiting to swap them in...

    On the K&N filter, good idea and easy to do. I just removed the oil bath setup from the end of the intake tube that crosses over the engine, and slipped on K&N part number PNRB-0520. I think it was something like $30 for the filter and cleaning kit package?

    Not sure on the remote oil filter either. I'm sure that's an easy one, too, and I'll be watching this thread for ideas...

    FWIW, I'm working on swapping in one of the Pertronix distributor conversions, adding an MSD ingition system, a Solex carb, and cleaning up the exhaust manifold and gasket for better breathing. Hopefully I can squeeze one or two extra ponies out of the old girl :D

    I kind of tend towards the "keep it original" camp - After all, if the modern conveniences are so important to you , why not just buy a late-model Toyota? But, it is after all your Jeep, and you have every right to build it how you want it, and I encourage that way of thinking. Remote oil filter adapters are common, and are pretty much a glut on the aftermarket. Most of them will mount the dirt-common PH8 filter. I don't recommend the Frantz toilet paper add-on filters though - TP was designed for a very different mission, for which it is much better suited. Upgrade the brakes and distributer as you see fit. Keep in mind though, that the stock setup was well-designed for its original purpose, and those setups are still operating successfully on millions of Jeeps, even after more than 50 years.

    If you don't want to swap out the whole front axle - look into using the disk brake setup off of a mid- 70's Dana 30 (Found in Cj-5's and Cj-7's). Original is cool, but disks are 100% safer. (And who's going to notice?)

    After some reading, I have figured out that I will run a low pressure pump (2.5 psi) with a oil pressure switch and build a plate to cover the hole left by the mechanical fuel pump. The oil pressure switch should kill the pump incase I flip over and the engine dies.
