Well I thought I was all set for paint, until my windshield frame arrived today  Can anyone tell me what either my old frame (red) is or what the new frame is. there is clearly a difference at the top of the windshield. GRRRR. Either way I'm scre**d again.

I can't remember which way it goes but we've discussed the differences in the frames here before, there's more than just the wipers moving to the bottom from the top as you see. :D

Why are you screwed? Won't go on a trailer with another windshield frame? R)

John, the new frame looks identical to the one on my 71. I took a pic for you. I would say that the old frame is wider at the top due to overhead wipers. Granted you have bottom mount but it is probably a carryover that got changed a year or two later.

Mine is a 69. I guess now I will have to buy a new windshield. Sheesh What a mess. It's kinda ok because I would rather have a taller windshield. it makes seeing traffic signals etc. easier, since its a street/trailer jeep. Right Sparky

    If I can chime in...

I have to lean over to drive my jeep because of the frame (identical to your old one). I would prefer the newer one like you have now so I can sit up straight.
Mine is only a year old and I won't spend the money to replace it with a newer style.
    Something to think about.

IIRC John the new frame is an intermediate CJ. I have a couple of them out in the shed - hope to make one good one to put on SSDutch. That extra 1 1/2" of glass makes a world of difference in visibility for me, since I look out the very top of the 'glass.

Should be the same outer shape and dimension as what you had, no?

That the older frame appears to have smaller glass than the new style.

Ask Boyink about the difference in visibility between the old and new styles ;)

My '69 has the thin style and my '68 has the wider style. Both have bottom mounted wiper motors. So maybe yours was a transition windshield, and both would be appropriate. My '69 was a late (October) build. Unfortuantely, the best picture I have of the '69's windshield is the one I used for my avatar.

    I hope this helps,

    Jim

Yeah Jim thanks. I can clearly see that the top is thinner just like my replacement. Guess I'll have to buy a new windshield now

Joe: I forgot to thank you to for snapping a pic of your as well.

My 69 cj has the old style w/s on it. Small glass, more steel on top for the hood bumpers. They are on U shaped brkts with a kind of foam rubber rapped around it so it won’t hurt the paint when the shield is down… Here is an old pic I hope you can see the brkts...

The later w/s design has a different setup to let the w/s down. Rather than the brackets on the w/s, there should be two padded large loops on the hood.
