I know the frame and suspension on my 52 m38a1 is heavier than a cj5 , but what is different between my 38a1 and a 55 cj5 ? Aren't the bodies the same except for the electrical outlet on the pass side and the lack of a tailgate ?

    Battery box.

    Glove box.

    Fuel tank.

    Hinged grill.....I think??

    Light switches

    Front spring shackles...?

    Emergency brake.....?

Not too sure of all of these, but I think they are correct.

    Hey Mike ,
thanks for the response , I guess I should have asked ,, are the front fenders the same ? is the tub the same dimensions ? I'm able to find a lot of 55 cj5 body panels and parts , but not as many 52 m38a1 pieces . Are they interchangeable ? sorry for the confusion ! thanks again , Dan

A1 = MG mounting late. No tailgate. Douglas connectors on all electric stuff. 24Volt. Fording stuff. I think the top-bow bracktes are differnet A1/ECJ5.

Early CJ tin should be the same or very close. I'm using a pair of mid 60's Jeepster fenders on my '52 - A1. I'm still looking for rear seat. Is your plan to restore to A1 or have Jeep salad - to get it going?

The plan is to have a respectable jeep . I looked for a m38a1 for the extra beef the military specified . It's an ongoing project , so one day if budget allows , it would be nice to have it look as it did in 52 . But for now it provides my son and I alot of together time .

Hinged grille on earliest A1 models only

Shackle "reversal" is the same on all A1 models and on the earliest year CJ-5s.

There are frame differences for gun mounts, etc. as well.
