What's that noise??

    This past weekend something in the engine broke :( It still runs and drives but has a ticking noise that sounds like a knock sorta. When I started driving back to camp it was backfiring some which is leading me to think a valve spring or something else in the valve train. At first it sounded like it was in the bottom end but then it started backfiring so that kinda eliminated that I think. Probably wont be able to tear into it till next weekend, so any guesses would be greatly appreciated :beer:

    probably a valve issue. pull the side cover and have a looksy. it is pretty easy to get at.

    In this order I would check:

    1. Check oil, if you haven't already.
    2. Pull side valve pan, check for broken springs, etc.
    3. Run compression check.
    4. Pull oil pan, look for "extra" pieces.

    If you recently adjusted the valves prior to this trip, you may have gotten one a tad too tight and something has to give if there isn't enough clearance in the valvetrain...

    Oil is still good. Havnt adjusted the valves. But I still need to hone the cylinder walls and was planning on starting that after this weekend but now it looks like I'll some other stuff to repair/replace :cry:
