I bought a Jeep yesterday not my first but so so far the most confusing. The ad which was listed said 1957 Willys Jeep, went down picked it up looked at title it says 1965. Looked at serial numbers on firewall they say 57548 151750. Im thinking thats where they go the 57 from. So I know its not a 1957. My problem is I want to restor this to ORIGINAL paint and all. I I really need to know the year, model, and anything else. The other thing that threw me is that this Jeep has top mounted wipers not bottom mount as ive seen on every CJ 5. Is it a CJ or a M38A1 or a mutt? HELP!!!

And post some pics...it's a lot easier to guess a year based on the features it has. And welcome!

Thanks all you've narrowed it down a bit. I will try and get some pics up at some point today. The faster I identify this thing the faster I can start restoring it.

It's very possible that the body wasn't the original one that came on that frame and drive train. Body swaps are very common. Maybe you have a '63 tub but everything else from a different year?

used to be the car (or jeep) was titled in WHAT year it was sold, NOT made. it is possible it's a late '63 build (may/juneish 1964) and sat on the dealer's lot till Jan 1965.

It's an early '63 (according to the VIN), refer to the VIN document or my previous post.

It is possible a body swap did occur but if the PIN tag and the title match, I'd find it dubious the year was able to be changed when the body swap was done. Rather you'd just have a new chassis under the old tub with the tub's year dictating what the title said and you would not be able to change the year and VIN.

Could be possible it set on the lot from Oct. '62 until 1965 sometime, maybe...

S/N on body matches s/n's on frame. So I doubt it was a body swap. Trying to find the camera wife hid it on me. Will post when I get photos.

If the body was not swapped and the numbers match from the frame to the body then its a 63 model like Sparky said.
