I have 70 and 67- here's hood stuff- looks different..

My 67 doesn't have any insignia on it but that's not uncommon for it- it's missing a lot of Badges, and "we don't need no stinkin' badges, man!"

Aftermarket??? Looks like stock reflectors to me. I sold some from a CJ-5 hood just like that.

I have never seen those on a Commando.
So I figured they were aftermarket.
I have seen thousands of Commando's ( I know I am obssesed) never noticed that reflector before.

If you look close you can see they moved the badges back so it would fit there.

They could have come from a CJ5 donor

I've seen them on a Commando before.

It was federal mandate at the time for reflectors that became running lights in the fenders.

They're available as replacements for Early CJ and Commandos here, http://www.the-jeep-guy.com/lights_&_lenses.htm

Or maybe this description from another forum?

Yeah, on your '70 the running light superseded the reflector on the hood, just like with the CJ-5s...

Mid 70's they went to the side marker light in the front fenders as well as on the rear quarter panels. My 70, which is totally original and is an early build has the reflectors on the hood and also the reflectors on the rear quarter, no side marker lights. I'd have to check the parts manual but I believe Sparky is correct, it could also be a 69 which would probably be when they started using reflectors.

Probably 69 or early 70, I've done a lot of research trying to find what year mine is, it has the big reflectors, late 70 went to the fender reflectors, could be earlier, but you would have to see the parking lights in the grill to know for sure.

Dunno, but it could be a '69 or '70. R)

Though I'm curious. On the CJ-5s there was no difference between the turn signal/running lights in '69 and '70. At least my '69 that had reflectors and my '71, there was no difference. They were also the same as my friend's '71 Commando. But my '69 Commando was different. No reflectors, small white cone-shaped lenses. So if it has reflectors what's the difference in the lenses on the Commandos?

Early 69 or older had the small bullet parking lenses, mid to late 69 had the bigger flat ones.

I was just expanding on you're already expansive explanation of the years Sparky :)

There were some differences in how the "Jeepster" and "Command" lined up too, but I couldn't nail it down to when they changed them.

Ok, but my question was regarding the Commandos with reflectors.

From your post I thought that you were indicating that the '69 and '70 Jeepsters had different lenses. They do, but as I noted and you just reaffirmed the early '69's had the bullet style lens.

So there is no difference between a late '69 and early '70 lens? That's what I was thinking you were indicating.

Yup, you have it right, late 69 and early 70 are the same for the reflectors. Mid model year changes suck for trying to figure things out R)

I think the Jeepster is more centered on the "C" in Commando in the older ones, but I can't guarantee it.

Throw my theory on the alignment of the Jeepster vs Commando out the window, there's a mint looking 71 on ebay and it lines up on the second "E" in Jeepster, whereas mine and this hood line up on the last "E" in Jeepster.

I believe the hood is from a 69 model. A friend of mine has a 70 mfd in Sept of 69 and it has the lights in the front fenders instead of the reflectors on the hood. To my knowlege 69 was the only year for these reflectors on the hood and it may have been a mid year addition.

As for the Jeepster Commando emblems on the hoods. The early models are longer than the later years. Here is a pic of my green 67 and my dad's 71 SC-1 for comparison. The later models have 2 slots in the Jeepster logo so you can use them on ealy or later model hoods where the 67 Jeepster logos only have the one slot and can only be used on ealy model hoods unless you want to drill more holes. True 67 convertibles only have the Jeepster emblems on the hood and do not have the Commando Logo. Not sure about later year covertibles.
