what would be the correct heater for a 59 cj?

    Well, as near as I can tell, there may not be a "stock" type heater for my '56, but rather several varieties of "period correct" heaters. It appears that all kinds of them were used, but I've yet to find out what the "factory option" might have looked like, if there was such a thing. I don't really care anymore, I've got a Willys heater so I'm happy. Now if I can just get the motors working....

    I think you have the right attitude here. I also believe that there were "period" heaters. I am still not sure if any were put in at the factory in the beginning. Seems like dealers shoved them in.

    While they may not have been factory installations Willys did put knockouts in the passenger firewall for a Harrison heater. The one you sent me Ceejay lines up perfectly for both the pipes & the three mounting bolts. The curious part is that from the 'Willys Overland" tag & the Art Deco lettering that heater obviously pre-dates CJ5s :?

    That brings back some very cold memories. When I was in High School in Butte, Montana I had a 71 VW. Butte is over 5000 feet elevation, and gets VERY cold in the winter. You want a worthless heater, get a VW. In the winter I'd scrape my windshield, and two blocks later it'd be solid ice again. I just drove with my head out the window like some kind of insane frozen dog. I kept a blanket in the car all winter that I would wrap around my legs to try to keep them warm. It didn't work. I was always cold. The only thing that car was good for in the winter was spinning cookies. If you cranked the wheel and dumped the clutch, it would spin a perfect 180 all day long. It just rotated around it's center axis.

    It did have electric wipers, but they were run on a European electrical system :mad: .
