Sorry it's a bad shot, I can get a better one if need be.

I think it's a 225 based on what the PO told me, and that the firing order is 165432.

That's a little far to make out details. Take a couple - focus one on the front, then each side, and then the back - the bell housing where it attaches to the block.

Valve covers don't look like what I have.

Sure it isn't just missing the distributor?

It's got a HEI near the firewall.

I'll get some clearer shots tomorrow.

Well - that's what I was thinking, but couldn't see it clear enough... Sure doesn't look like a 225 or 231 to me :)

Regarding the transmission, if the T-90A is cast into the side, that doesn't tell you much. These transmissions came with a tag under one of the cover bolts from the factory. The tag is sometimes missing though ... if so, you can take the top off of the transmission and count the gear teeth to identify the transmission. The tooth counts should be listed somewhere on the Novak site.

Looks like a Chevy to me. 262 maybe? That fuel pump looks just like a small block Chevy fuel pump.

Or a 229. Which would be a reason you were told it is a 231, the 229 is also a 3.8L motor that came in oddfire at one time, along with evenfire and a semieven fire.

The alt mount and water pump look similar to my 4.3, but valve covers (and everything else about the motor) just looks "older".

Yep I would say its a 200 or 229 chevy motor. Start looking for those casting numbers and it will tell you if its an even or semi even fire motor.

Guys thanks again. The more I searched online leads me to believe you are correct. It's definately a 90* V6...most likely out of a Malibu from the early to mid 80's.

I have decided to go with the F-134 as it's all running, together, and frankly, because I have more parts available to me for that configuration.

Looks like that, with the Turbo 350 (or 250?) and later CJ 44 will be going up for sale. (along with my 3b windshield frame)

It seemingly never ends with this thing...I wrote down some numbers on the engine that came out of the 70 CJ5 to search online, and they show it was from a CJ3B if I'm reading stuff correctly!? It is 4J 38461 then a space then 9, then a weird 1519 all in a row.

The carburetor reads L1 6115s Carter YF that when I searched online, only referenced a Jeepster.

    Color me confused...
