I'm cleaning up my dana 25 and 44 to install on my 3b.I opened up the covers ,both visually look good and rotate freely with no noise so I'd rather not disassemble them. What is safe to use and best way to do it?Thanks

Diesel fuel and run them at low speeds for a few minutes.

That's what I do after swamping my axles.

x2 here, We let drain a day or so. If any visible water in there I wound spray some wd-40 around in there and let it drain a day or so. The wd-40 would mix with the water and displace it. Then fill with some hydraulic oil, lift jeep up on some jack stands so all wheels were off the floor and let it run and circulate the oil for a while/drain and refill with gear oil.

non chlorinated brake cleaner. a can or two should do it. Let it dry out then reseal and refill.

X3 on the diesel fuel, which is what I have used for the last 40 years.

Thanks guys. Both axles are off on jack stands and had been sitting for unknown amount of time. The gear oil was clean with no crud in it.Just received my suspension kit from Walcks so I'm getting ready to put them back on.Anything else I should look for while they're still off ?

If I were you I'd create a build/rebuild/project thread for your Jeep, WITH photos, where you can have a running tally of your inquiries, answers, and to show what you're doing.

You're doing yourself a disservice by not doing so, because an ongoing thread generates interest and photos, especially, are basically 'everything' on this forum and
lets others see what you're trying to accomplish more than words can ever say... Just my humble opinion. :flag:
