HI again, redoing front ball joints and u-joints on my 67 Jeepster conv and have found out from another post that I read that my axle is from a 72 wagoneer with the front tag number being 5350863. So I thought I should confirm what rear axel I have. the tag says 999428 41-11 3.73 also on the end of the flanged axel is
FJ 35 88 5 and on axel tube to the right of diff is 4 27 2 so what year did the flanged rear axel show up.
Im guessing that an original 67 Jeepster had a Dana 27 front axel, a 30 rear axel and a Dana 18 transfer case. Does that sound right. Still looking for more numbers on rear . Craig

Yes, the C101 had a D30 rear axle.

I found this on the JustJeepsters web site:
    • all years front axle Dana 27; Rear axle Dana 44 and Model 30 on some earlier years. Before mid 1970 the rear Dana 44 used a 19 spline or 27 spline, two piece axle shaft. After mid 1970, they used a superior one piece 30 spline flanged axle shaft, most axles are open diff front and rear unless special ordered.
And regarding the Wagoneer rear axle this is from jeeptech.com.

The Dana 44 was standard in Wagoneers, full size Cherokees, and J series pickups. A wide track version was introduced for the Cherokee and Wagoneer in the 80s. The Cherokees and Wagoneers built from 1974 on use a 6 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. Models built before 1974 used a 5 on 5.5" wheel bolt pattern. Most rear ends before '74 use the weaker 2 piece shafts, but some of the later ones uses 1 piece shafts. The early Wagoneer and Cherokees used Dana 30 and Dana 27 front ends.

I'm not vouching for the accuracy of either of these, you may find other info. ;)

The Wagoneer and J-truck went to the flanged 30-spline Dana 44 ca 1970 (maybe earlier), just like the CJs and Jeepsters. The wide-track Cherokee (model 18) was introduced in 1977. I would contend that the rear LSD option was as popular for the Jeepster as the CJs; that is, very popular.
