What kind of winch is this?

    It looks suspiciously like an aircraft bomb winch I had one time. Most winches like that you can turn the input shaft/gear around to put the input on the opposite side. That may make it usable for that application. You'd have to mount in reverse direction from where it is now with the input on the bottom. Nickmil

    I am pretty sure the upright tubes are an early ghetto-fab Fairlead to keep the cable on the drum
