    That would be one of the first models of the flux capacitor. It was made of brass because back then it was easier to get than stainless steel. Also it was attached to the pto since plutonium was also a little more scarce than it is today. You couldn't just go down to the corrner store and get some plutonium. Now you can get it by building a fake bomb with used bike parts.
    The jeep was geared down so when you hit 55 mph :shock: it would activate the flux capacitor and the 1.21 gigawatts would send you back in time to 1955. Now adays, cars can go faster and with stainless steel bodies, you need to hit 88 miles per hour to get the rpm's out of the car for the same thing.

    This is what I was told today. It was used for the Jeep a Trench. A sprocket went behind the pto and another sprocket on the parking brake. The pto ran the jeep. Why? Who knows. Trying to find an install manual on the jeep a trench. I'll try Jim Marski. I know he has a Jeep a trench on a 3A.
    I was just also told that a hardtop is mandatory when using the flux capacitor. My buddy is now dusting the remains of his friend, who insisted he wanted to go first, off the seat and floor of his jeep. I guess we could classify that as an important safety tip.

    the gear would power the axle(s) when using the trencher, otherwise it would move too fast to be of any practical use.


    2nd look:

    a brake for the pto?

    I had to draw this one on paper to try and understand....

    Since the PTO would be geared before the output in the tcase, wouldn't it NOT get the gear reduction of low range?

    My '2A had one of these on it when I bought it. it is an outer sleeve for the Spicer 18H PTO unit, used to power everything from welders to hydraulic pumps to sickle-bar mowers. The attachment point on the side I'm told was used to provide a counter-torque point to lessen the strain on the PTO under heavy load.

    My Jeep originally had both a three-point hitch AND a side-mount mower on it. There was a ring gear on the outside edge of my emergency brake drum that I think engaged into the mower to power the cutting action, sort of like a hedge trimmer. The PTO ran the hydraulics to lower the hitch and / or the mower.

    There was a beautiful picture somewhere on the web of an early '2A or '3A with the mower on it.

    We have a bingo, folks!

    IIRC, the big lever next to the driver engages the drive gear onto the brake drum to make the cutter go. The hydraulic controls are mounted in between the seats, next to the PTO lever.

    I would love to see the two sprockets engaged amd disengaged on the trencher. Man seems so complicated but nothing as complex and the forklift jeep. That is cool. Imagine being able to shift, brake, steer and run the lift while sitting above the passenger seat facing backwards.
