I just got this jeep and know very little about it or any jeep for that matter. I am going to change all the fluids cause it has been sitting for a long time before i got it.

From the numbers on the block by the fire wall i know that the motor is a dauntless 225 v6 so what oil and filter do i need and how much oil dose i take?
Any other info you have for me for this motor will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks. For the help

    I run 10w40.

Compatible oil filters should be as follows

    Fram Toughguard PH11
    AC Delcom PF24
    STP S3506
    WIX 51049 OR 51258.

I found out the hard way there are two different oil filters for the 225 physical size notwithstanding. Iirc the threads were different. Knowing what year your engine is will help with this.
I run 10/30 or 10/40 depending on ambient temperature. A high zddp oil like Shell Rotella is a plus to help with cam lobe longevity. There are additives to help with this as well.

I run Shell Rotella T 15W40 in the Jeeps, with Wix or Autolite/Purolator filters (not Fram). Oil with a high ZDDP level or comparable additives is good for flat tappet engines. WalMart GL4-GL5 85W90 gear oil for the transmission, transfer cae and axles, with limited slip additive as needed.

There is a lot of discussion about flat tappet engines and ZDDP on the internet. Easy to find out more.

The VW gets Valvoline 5W30 synthetic with a Mann filter.

So from reading it looks like my 225 should take about 5 quarts of oil and the tranny, T-case and rear diff should take 90wt. Is this about right?

You will want a GL4 for transmission, 85-90 is what I run.

I used one of the jugs of oil for mine. I believe that is 4.1?Just check dip stick, like others mentioned different oil filters. I always ran what ever napa gold filter they gave me.

I'm going into winter in Idaho which obviously gets very cold. I need to change the oil on my dauntless and see that the general recommended oil is Shell Rotella T 15W40. Is this weight going to be what I want it is stored outside so obviously it's going to take a minute to warm up?

My normal oil when living in the cold parts of Colorado were 10-40. We did use block heaters when it was colder than -10, but I found that weight to work fine in the cold.

    Its the right oil filter,

The reason why I used the Napa gold its because they fit the first time around. I had issues with Fram brand of filter at O'Reilly's, it wouldn't screw on. They where surprised too. I just went with the gold because it fits every time, and hasn't caused any trouble.

Not to make matters more complex, but you could also potentially run a straight weight oil because you're in southern California (hotter temperature). I was going to switch to straight 30 weight myself. I heard and read a few places might help or might not with the oil pressure. What ever you decide do the research and form your own opinion. The guys are great on this site and a very valuable resource too. :)

If your specifically after the high ZDDP levels for Rotella brand of oil then you should only consider the 15-40 weight.
The other viscosities of Rotella do not have the same high ZDDP parts per million.
I was told that over the phone by a Shell Rotella representative.
