Drove to an area along the crest of the Cascade range today. Met my younger daughter, grandsons, their neighbor and her daughter. We spent the day picking huckleberries.

I had to put in a new water temp gage but Im getting to old to stand on my head to re do the under dash wiring, so out came the Sawzall. Now all the dash work can be done sitting on the seat. The factory saved money by doing the dash this way but I think the military dash is the way to go.

put on new rear brake shoes, and ordered new larger wheel cylinders. Also degreased the underside of the drivers floor boards, getting ready for POR-15. next is to metal prep, that's tomorrow.

Made a trip to the village this morning, meeting at the city house to discuss about phone and internet connections.
I tested the filling of the 'steering gear' with oil and it works fine, turning the steering wheel is nicer.
The temperature is approx 100° F and I keep the small canvas top on, to avoid sun attack.
That is the good weather to use the Jeep, I see people in cars, they are jalous.

Except... a buddy in an old big convertible Cadillac, roof opened of course... we said hello to each other.

Now that I'm done messing around with the trailer,
Today is POR-15 metal prep day, and if it dries completely, painting, And if things go really well I'll get the new drivers floor pan put in. No more watching the road kill go underneath.:)

Did a test shot of wheel color for my new wheels.

These are the old wheels/tires. Front is "white" and rear is "off-white". Out of a rattle can from Walmart (Rust-O-Leum enamel). Once I decide on the color (leaning towards the off-white on rear) I'll paint the new rims and take them in to get tires on them.

Got my center console basically done today. Need to fine tun the mounting and touch up paint but its usable.

I used a taller nvg ammo can and a .50 ammo can. The lids for both cans are the same size for what its worth.

I drilled the spot welds for the top handles and removed them. I modified the latches to allow an eye bolt to pass through for a pad lock. Next, i drilled the hing spot welds and modified it to fit upside down from its original position and attach to the body of the taller can. Cut some holes for drop in cup holders in the lid of the short can and hold it all together with some 1/8" flat stock bent to be the mounting platform as well. Lastly, i made my own padded arm rest from a torn bikini top and some hobby padding with a plywood base to attach to one lid.

It sits slightly taller than most but its still comfortable. Pics are below. And yes, i have cleaned up my workbench since the pics so please be nice.

I vote off-white, if you're accepting viewer input. The white looks like a cheap re-paint, and the off-white just looks... right.

I chose "Heirloom White" by RustOLeum. That's the color on the rear wheel. SO liked it better, too.

    1 can does 2 wheels.

I disassembled my brand new odometer! I just installed a new speedo unit with my new engine last month. I'm keeping close track of miles for first oil change, etc.
The hundreds spool started rolling with the ones spool while the tens spool stayed in place! What the heck?!!! It should have rolled to 335 last night and jumped to 739 coming home from dinner.
I first took apart a junk speedo/odometer to figure out how they worked. It's a delicate job. I then carefully tore into my new one. I found too much play (slop) between the spools on the shaft. This gap between spools was allowing things to turn out of sequence. I added a little shim washer to keep everything tight together. I reassembled it, corrected the mileage and all seems to be well now. I'll keep a close eye on it though. :flag:
Sorry - no photos. I was frazzled and don't think about taking photos when I'm having a little emergency. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I ordered this unit from someplace in Vietnam about 5 years ago. It was the only one I could find that exactly matched my vintage of CJ.

I needed brackets to tie in my cage front hoop. Want to make some 1" steps / guards to protect the glass as well at the rockers. This forum has the ability to make me do a lot of forehead slapping and feel like my IQ is abit low. One great thing I have gleaned is the cad use ( cardboard aided design) In retrospect .25 wall may be a little heavy but run what you brung....

I drove mine for the first time today since I bought it about a year and a half ago. Got a bumping sound in the drivetrain to research. :(

Loaded my Jeep (er... project) up and moved it to the new house. Now as soon as I can get the last few items knocked out for the final inspection on the garage/shop then maybe I'll have time to work on it again! I told my brother we needed to go to the Easter Jeep weekend next year so that is the goal. Of course it wouldn't be the first deadline I missed considering we were supposed to me moving back in June:oops:
