More silly stuff for the '71 Buick V8 Jeep.

I found these 3d printed badges on ebay:

So I dug out the old model paints, found a few that weren't dried up, and painted them today:

Once they're dry, I'l have to pop the V6 badges off and double stick tape these on.

That's just an optical illusion due to the angle of the photograph. The Apex of the bend is midway between the transfer case and the front axle. But if you look closely you can see a shiny spot worn on the shaft where it has contacted the skid plate. I may need to clearance the skid plate.

Decided to order up the Crown heavy duty front leaves. The "standard duty" front leaves are too lightly sprung IMO for the 76 with a V8 as at rest they're compressed to the point the axle is only about 1.5 inches off the bump stops and it has a very obvious rear high rake. I'm worried that after a break in period they're going to have the axle on the bumpstops.

The standard duty are rated for around 250ish lb-in with 4 leaves where as the heavy duty are 7 leaves with 410 lb-in rate. Thankfully Quadratec has said I can return the standard duty units for a refund as long as I do so within their 30 day guarantee window which I should easily be able to do.

I like it because it was an easy way to get the hi-lift out of the way and not taking up space in the back, but I can’t fold the windshield down with it and I can’t open the hood all the way back, I have to use a hood prop instead of resting it on the windshield.

Eventually I would like to mount the hi-lift on my spare tire carrier in the back, honestly I rarely use it.

I decided to get a hoist to move my hard-top on and off.
I ordered a cheap (Chinese) hoist electric model, which I'll check and modify if necessary.
it will be useful twice a year, I'll check about adapted grease and protection.
I hope that it will be ok, sometimes they are out of work on first trial.
I also bought a hook to have a 2nd attach because it is not good to let the hard-top hanging on the hoist.
But this hook has a safety, and I don't like it because difficult to move it at distance.
So I made a hole and a small modification, as in picture.
That was today, and today I was also with this beautiful cow.
Of course, I wear a mask. And now, curfew from 8PM to 6 AM

Ok, I give. Completely dry at the rear main. Clearly it's getting by the rear two pan bolts that thread into the main cap. Otherwise it is completely sealed all around, quite a chore to get off. This is gasket #3...

And today the miracle hoist to get my hard-top up and down arrived, probably from China, through Germany and Czech Republic.
Price 90 euros, capacity 300 lb single line, 600 lb double line.
I tested, it works. Then will be the preparation.
At the same time a received a battery for the scooter. Lot of work.
But I wait for a son to help me; alone, it will be difficult for me to manage all.

Swapped the Crown standard duty springs for their heavy duty springs up front. Much better, no longer an inch off the bump stops.

Made new front shackles and welded the passenger seat frame. The shackles are just over an inch longer than what I had on there (Currently ~8 1/8"). The spring eyes won't smash the frame now since there's somewhere around 1 3/4" between the two and the D20 is self draining now.

I had previously pulled up my transmission tunnel on my 1960 CJ5 to do some floor repair. Now that the new metal is welded in and painted up, I decided to do some repair on the transmission tunnel. So I removed the rust, put a few small fiberglass patches in, a little filler, sand, prime, and paint. I have it looking about as good as the rest of the vehicle now, so I plan to reinstall tomorrow.

Its really an old railroad bed along the river, that has been turned into a hiking/biking trail. About 6mi each way IIRC
