The kids insisted on going on a "Jeep Ride" yesterday. Noticed I still had exhaust header leaks but I had some Remflex header gaskets coming in. The little one fell asleep not long after we rolled out. The oldest stayed awake for the whole ride. Didn't go far but tooled around on some backroads. Found this culvert built with two railway tanker cars with the ends cut off. Some of the usual garbage plus a saddle. First time I';ve found a thrown out saddle.

This morning the UPS guy got here way earlier than normal. Just got done installing the Remflex header gaskets. Weather is pretty crappy today so not sure if I'll fire it up and take it for a spin or wait till tomorrow. I also tapped the diff breather holes for 1/8 NPT thread since both were missing when I got the Jeep. Now I have both axle's breathers ran up to around the battery tray area.

I felt like the CJ fender flares looked a bit too "hooded" so I trimmed one rear flare up along the line about 5/8" up. I really liked it, looks mostly the same just a bit more open. I will do the rest tomorrow, the kids are asleep. I know, wild, right?

How do you guys get these kids to sleep?
I have to keep this thing in the house so he is at least in the same place I left him.

That is a good look, if you don't mind me asking, where did you pick them up?

Thank you! They're just plain Omix replacement aftermarket late 70s style flares. I trimmed them just above the little line that runs along the bottom edge of the flares, using a 4 1/2" grinder and a cutoff wheel. Then i carefully used my pocket knife to scrape off the semi melted stuff along the cut. I then dressed up the edges with a half round bastard file and some sandpaper. A slower grinder would probably be better, but my 11amp Milwaukee was what I had. omix-11601.01-fender-flare-kit-jeep-cj5-cj7-cj-tabletop.jpg

Thanks. I remember when I was a kid working after school in the local junkyard we used to throw baby moons around like frisbees at each other. Now they are like hens teeth. I saw this set on a Subway van, Ford Econoline. I went in, asked the owner, an Indian guy, about them. When I showed him a picture of Farm Jeep Willy, he gave them to me. Really nice guy. He wouldn't take a nickel for them. He just wanted to see them put to use!

TODAY I braved an appointment at DMV and after a royal screw up got Plates and registration for CHUG A LUG so when I get some more stuff done it will be ready to roll.

The gal at the counter asked for my paper work then asked me as she's looking at the computer "so do you still have these plates?" I say you mean the ones last registered in 79? "She says no 59" I said no thats wrong the Jeep was last registered with plates that were gotten after 62 and last on the road in 79 and yes I have those plates. THEN she says you want to register those plates!!!! I say I was told I couldn't she says computer says you can. OK the plates I had on the Jeep in high school that would be cool they are a little beat up but not that bad.

So I figure great I just saved a BUNCH of money the new plates I was going to get would be another $129 YAHOO time for a big lunch. Then I sit down in the pickup and really look at the paper work. She has issued me stickers for Plates that were on the Jeep and expired when dad bought the jeep in 1962!!! GREAT

So I run back to the office figuring they have to let me fix this even though my appointment was over. They do and I get them to fix everything but the Plate listed on the Title (which makes no difference) only now I have a Brand new set of Pacific Wonderland Plates and no money for Lunch LOL.

I'm about two months ahead of needing the plates and insurance but I only put liability on it just to get the plates and thats only $67 a year so 2 months is like 2 hamburgers so no big deal. Once I am on the road I will go to a Stated Value full coverage policy. With this Covid thing and the goof balls that run this state I figured I wanted plenty of lead time for getting CHUG licensed cause few things would piss me off more then get it done after 15 years of work and not to be able to drive it cause they shut down the DMV's again.

The 2G soaks in Simple Green and hot water in the kitchen. I'll paint the intake in the meantime. IMG_20201205_111218754~2.jpg
My wife says this is the only place car parts soak next to marinating meat. She doesn't know most people here...

    More truck stuff.

Might’ve had a slight visibility issue at the one stoplight between my house and the lumber yard.

I’m starting to think that a low profile roof rack might be in the cards down the road.

Love your Jeep and the view of your neighborhood. I lived in Woodland Park from 1980-1982 and the scenery in your photos bring back fond memories. I lived off of Northwoods Place off of Evergreen Heights.

Looks like your doing fine as is and once the rack is ready you won't need it anymore.

    I say you need a 5 x 10 trailer.

Yeah, your not alone. I have used the dish washer, oven, and the freezer on occasion. Right now I have motor paint under the kitchen sink and a big plastic tote full of misc new jeep parts that I have been collecting for when I start my restoration.

BTW. I have found that the carb and parts soak that is made by '' GUNK'' works really well.
