It was done before I got it, but this is what it looks like:

The motor mounts, bellhousing, and throttle linkage are bolt in, but the extra length is a bit of a mess in this Jeep. They hacked the cowl to move the radiator forward:

The radiator sits on top of the front cross frame which necessitated shortening the height. The core is only 14" tall now. You can see the weld in the middle of the radiator brackets here:

They also hacked the top rear of the cross frame but not enough to be very helpful. There is only room for a small diameter flex fan. With the small fan and cut-down radiator, it cools fine when moving, but likes to get hot when idling or moving slow. Even with the little electric pusher the PO cobbled in:

I think if you completely redid the front cross frame to move it forward and/or down, you could put a normal radiator back in with a decent sized fan/shroud and it would probably be fine.

I'm contemplating doing that since it will be a while before the V6/T-98/twin stick D18/Warn OD running gear is ready to install. I think the timing was way retarded, so getting it where is should be will reduce engine temps some. We'll see how much when I take it out for a drive tonight.

I'll make you a good deal on the "bolt in" 350 in a year or so!

the B-350 is a good candidate for a easy V-8 swap. Distributor is up front and bellhousing and motor mounts are the same as the B-225 V-6. It's lighter then the Chevy 350 and shorter. From the factory it was designed to be a torque motor. With just a little messaging, it's easy to push nearly 400 HP and 380 Lb of torque. The 1978 B-350 has better water jackets and oil passages. By using a '76 - '86 CJ grille and modify the crossmember the radiator fits nicely and the crank pulleys and oil filter has plenty of room.

An intermediate grill would move the radiator forward a couple inches..... then that would be a sweet swap!
Throw a later grill/ radiator and an edelbrock pro flow 4 multi port efi setup...... we need a boner emoji....

Installing adapter kit to this t18 4 speed to use with my D18 TC. Putting the 3rd gear and synchro assembly back on the main shaft fought me. I won!
Then putting the main shaft back in fought me.

It’s winning just now but I will prevail!
Dropped the counter shaft down then dropped all the rollers out. (Lost one).
    Starting over. :banghead:

I got the counter shaft back in with all the bearings and washers in place.

I am definitely missing one roller. I searched and swept and searched and swept and cleaned under the bench and cleaned the top of the bench and swept again.

Anyone got a T18 roller bearing they can fedex me?

Wow, getting the timing set helped a lot. I could idle all the way up the driveway (3/4 mile) with it only getting warm. It used to boil over of you tried that. I'm going to see if I can fit a bigger belt driven fan and a better electric fan.

I see the small pusher fan - that can definitely go bigger I would think. Is there a puller fan behind it, or is there no room. If there is no puller fan, is the shroud helping or hurting?

There is a very small belt driven 13" flex fan behind the radiator. It looks like this:

I'm going to see if I can fit in a more aggressive one in it's place, but space is really limited. If I trim the lip off the back of the radiator cross member, I could go up to a 15" fan. But if I've got things apart to trim the cross member, I should trim/reinforce more so I can put a normal sized radiator in it. ....scope creep.

I can go also up to a 14" diameter 3.5" deep pusher fan in front that will flow a lot more than the current one. It's got a 65A alternator, so powering a bigger electric fan shouldn't be an issue.

Spent most of the day messing with the CJ. Got the pulley and reservoir on the PS pump after painting it.

Got both diff's drained and refilled with new gear oil. The old stuff was pretty disgusting and the front diff had obvious water contamination but luckily the gears were spared. The rear diff is leaking from the pinion seal already so I get to drain that again and replace that seal the diff cover is also leaking a little bit, ordered a new rubber seal for that. Yay. Front diff sealed up fine.

Replaced the rear rubber brake line from the frame to the axle. Pretty sure it was the original. Need to do the front's eventually but they'll be easy to do even with the tub on the frame.

Got a little carried away with my big press while changing U-joints and busted the ear off of the slip yoke of the rear driveshaft. That was an 80 dollar mistake. More like 100 after I get the shaft rebalanced.

The front drive shaft has a ton of play but the splines on the drive shaft look fine so going to test the new slip yoke on it and see if I can salvage the shaft with a new 80 dollar slipyoke vs 250-300 for a whole new front drive shaft.

Painted a few odds and ends here and there but getting closer to having the driveline/frame wrapped up and starting on the body work on the tub.

Got tired of messing around with my old worn out locking hubs. Bit the bullet on Warn Premium. Called Quadratec and got $50 credit because it was missing some small parts.

    Drove it. :)

Went to town and back, had a blast, got it up to about 50mph with still no signs of overheating. (Huzzah)

Rerouted the drivers exhaust due to the transmission PTO with Geoffreyl's help. Another victory lap, 11 miles on the od now.

Never been a fan of the whack it with a hammer method unless im away from the shop. I typically use the the ball joint press (giant c clamp) but couldnt get it to budge with that for some reason.
