:pI got really excited this morning. I had a missed call and voicemail from a local number. Thinking it was the machine shop, I hurried to listen to the voicemail telling me to pick up my stuff! Alas, it was just our local school district telling me school is out for however many more weeks.:p

Found the set of Tuxedo Park hood badges that I had put away somewhere safe and then promptly forgot where they were. I've been looking for them for months. Took all of 10 minutes to put them on the hood. Then I drove her to work this morning.

I had a productive jeep day. Setting my office up in the garage was a master stroke, hahaha.

I put to use the pilot bearing puller (thanks for the tip!!!) to pull the bearing from inside the spindle on my dana 30. I had been banging away at that darn thing for weeks with a punch, and didn't even budge it. 30 second with the right tool and it was out.

I also finished the transfer case crossmember for my t18 conversion. Hopefully my welds are strong, because I wouldn't call them all that pretty.

Finally, I checked in with the machine shop regarding my dauntless. The shop owner sort of just runs with the stuff I comment on, and reamed out the oil passages, built baffles in the oil pan, and basically did all the mods that tarry recommends in his blueprint thread. Turned out to be much more expensive than I expected, the wife is pissed (but probably secretly happy in the long run- new engine!)

There's been steady progress, but the next big hurdle is the frame. I have to either buy 2x4 tubing and splice the center to cj6 length, or invest in a tdk frame. We'll see what my '78 f150 sells for to decide that one.

Dropped my T15/Dana 20. If you’re wondering, yes you do need to remove the floor cover panel and take off the transmission top cover as directed in the TSM. I thought it was just a matter of vertical clearance, but the shifter gets in the way of pulling it toward the rear and clearing the input shaft of the bell housing. Novak kit arrived today, and disassembly of the T15 starts tomorrow (t-case was done last year).

If you don't have time to build it yourself, I highly recommend a TDK frame. They were really good to work with and the frame is super solid. They will also do any modifications you want, YJ springs, Chevy motor mounts, etc. I had them leave the front spring and shackle hangers off and the motor mounts as I was doing something non-standard. They would have done it for me if I'd asked. I'd also suggest paying the extra to have it galvanized.

Started getting after my Dana 27. There is definitely a reason I saved this for last. Bubba was very busy on the ends. Lock o matics were more like bubba o matics. They will be for sale shortly. Have you ever seen only one spindle nut before without a locking tab or second nut. Neither have till today. Each side was differently assembled. Good thing I have a spare parts Jeep. Now I have nice rebuilt locking hubs again. Two days later and not quite done. Maybe tomorrow. But now it has new king pins bearing, races, knuckle seals, button head bolt conversion and installed the right two hole knuckle for future steering conversion. Hub bearings and seals.

. Maybe it will be done tomorrow.

Not really just today. Several evenings worth of work finished today. The old battery had leaked acid everywhere and made a big mess. Pulled it and the battery box. Neutralized the the battery box and hardware in a baking soda wash, wire brushed the rust off, treated with Naval Jelly and painted it. Reinstalled with a new AGM battery for no leaks and new battery cables. Also added a ground cable from the engine to the body since I couldn't find one on the Jeep.

Cranks better than it ever has!

    Before:

After (needed the aluminum spacers because the AGM battery is shorter than a standard group 24 battery):

Next is a ground cable to the chassis and rebuilding the engine wiring harness.

Got the new bumper and reinforcement piece installed. I got to say getting the old rusted one off was a challenge. With the rivets and welds + rust. The new pieces from Kaiser Willies did not mate up at all. Guess they have a new vendor for the reinforcement piece (I informed them of the problems). Glad I have a Bridgeport to make it work.

I had it shipped to Alaska, which is where I did the frame, paint and body work, and installed the drivetrain. It was about $300 from Seattle to Anchorage.

I made a fiberglass shroud about 5 years ago but didn’t put much of a finish on the exterior. Over the weekend, I removed the shroud, sanded it smooth and finished it off with semi gloss black and clear coat.

Took the dogs out for a Jeep ride after dinner.

The pup likes to look out the windshield while his big brother prefers the head out the window approach:

I drove it yesterday for about 75 miles. Took the kids for a ride. Thrilled with the smoothness and the power level is great. The old Dauntless must have been more worn out than I figured. No more power than new I figure, but it is certainly snappier than it was. And so quiet. No more tickety-tickety! When I climbed under it to check it out, not a leak to be seen!

I need a front driveshaft. I considered cutting up one I had and using new Dom. After pricing that online I remembered Millennium falcons video. I shopped marketplace for a used shaft. After 30mins on the bucket and having finished the bottle of blackberry whiskey I keep stashed in the garage...I called Tom Woods. $279 it'll be here by next Tues. I've futzed with shifter boot ideas for a week. While the plastic was out I ordered from Summit....note to self booze in the shop probably a poor idea.

I need this covid crap to clear up so I can get Geoffrey L back here to help me get the brakes straightened out / bled. It also needs to go to my friends fab shop for a weekend of cage finishing and seat install. Thats it sans cosmetics not necessary to getting tags.

Yesterday the battery on the CJ died....it was a 7 year old 36 month battery so not totally unexpected. It had leaked some so the box and hold down were crusty with acid. Some cleaning and new paint were in order.

Then, because it's a beautiful 70 degree day, we took top off and I let my 16 year old son take it for a spin!
