I don't know what color a Spen should be as I don't know anyone that has one w/ original paint. Should I paint it the same color as the jeep or? Here is the color as it stands now. My jeep is that funky green that so many 5's and pickup trucks were.

    My 2c...

I really like a trailer that matches the color of the Jeep. Just ends up looking like they go together that way. Unless your going for a full restoration, thats the route I'd go.

I'll see what the trailer was when I sand it down as I need to find a serial number off the frame anyway. I have a bed extender and a folding bed extender. I think I will paint one of them green. Would you still go green w/ the trailer too?

The color on your Spen looks like a Kaiser Jeep color from the mid 1960's, but could just be similar. My guess would be that the previous owner painted it to match something he had.

The Bantam T3-C civilian trailers came in green (similar to the Willys green of the day) and red. Since Spen trailers were sold through authorized Willys dealers as an approved accessory, it would make sense that the trailers came from Spen painted the same green as Willys civilian jeeps.

As for what color to paint your Spen trailer, I would paint it Willys green if it is a true restoration. The question would be, "which Willys green?" Check out these links for color chips for early CJ-2A through 1954 CJ-3 jeeps. You will note several greens.

Otherwise, I would paint it to match your jeep.

Are you going to tow your Spen behind your '62 CJ-5, one of your other jeeps, or all three?

Also, what year is your Spen? If unknown, what years did Willys offer Spen trailers as accessories?

What are the color names/numbers on each of your jeeps?

The reason I ask is if you intend to tow behind multiple vehicles that are all different factory colors, then the trailer can match only one and it would make sense to either match one of them or choose an accurate color used by Spen so you have a true restoration.

I don't know if Spen sold trailers through Willys as late as 1962. If not, then using the color of your '62 CJ-5 would certainly make them look like they belong together, but wouldn't really be a restoration.

PS - my '46 Bantam T3-C is now painted "Sebring Red" to match my '83 CJ-7. It isn't the same red originally sprayed by Bantam, but very close. (The trailer started red, was painted yellow (Willys "Coronado Sand") by the original owner sometime during the late 1950's, painted "Empire Blue" by me in 1966 to match my Dad's new '66 CJ-5 V-6, and then Sebring Red in 2005.)

I'm not sure of when Spen folded and a buddy has a 45 dated one. There is a gent w/ a 56 dated one but it could have been old stock sold later. The last owner of Spen doesn't like to answer questions but I'll keep trying. I think Bantam folded before Spen, again not 100% on this.
The 62 CJ5 will get the Spen.I'm going to check on the original color when I repaint/rewire. My 45 2A will get the green Bantam, I think I found the proper water tank for the CJ3B firejeep and my slat grill will tow a 30 cal M1917 on an aluminum ammo cart because slats don't have trailer wiring and a cart is low enough where someone behind me can see the jeep's taillights during parades.

    My trailer was originally blue:

IMO, this color is a match:

The entire trailer had blue paint on it except the wheels were black.
