After much indecision i went back and got this 79 CJ5 for 1500. Funny thing is its for my wife. She said she would like to putt around town in it so now the work starts. The brakes don't work. The wiring is definitely 3rd rate and the tie rod ends and shocks are worn to bits. Nothing thats too hard but all new to me since this is the first CJ Ive ever laid hands on. Hope you folks don't mind a bit of newer CJ questions from time to time.

Yup its the same one i was talking about at the reunion. My kid who it was to be for decided he did not want it and so did I. But when the seller dropped the price from 2K to 1500 i showed my wife who said she wanted it. My jaw hit the ground to say the least.

I did a quick test drive and was reminded why i don't own one. my lard butt needs more room. If my wife was not 5'6" id notch the wheel well like Hansch ( sorry if its spelled wrong ) did. Still cant believe he can drive his comfortably lol.

The CJ sits on a somewhat scary couple of inch body lift but i think the rest is stock. I plan to get or make some new body mount spacers. Get the brakes working properly. Replace the shocks which are wasted and get all the electrical in order. Then she plans on just driving it around town. It may see a 2 track or two but not much more.

Its killing me not to lift it. Its just my nature :)

More photographs, let us see the dash board and the overall condition of the body. We love pictures here, because a picture is worth a thousand words

So far I have changed the TR, TRE's and drag link. The steering got a little better but the alignment must be off. I am thinking this thing was lifted some as the drag link and tie rod and not even with each other. My wife is complaining of bump steer. Its not bad to me but I'm used to my commando's bump steer.

Replaced the shocks with some soft rides and that made a nice difference. Still have lots of work to do to get the dash gauges working as they should. Ill shoot some more pics today if no rain shows up.
