So I have a 1953 3B and I am looking to replace the radiator core.
This Harrison originally has a cellular type core.
    The cell width is 9/16”.
Checked with Maine radiator but they only have 1/2” cellular cores.
Anyone know where I can locate a 9/16” cellular core ?

A few years ago one of my local radiator shops said they could get the core but it was really expensive so I did not pull the trigger. I did not ask on the width. You may need to call around.

A quick internet search found these folks that have a lot of information about cellular cores and claim to be able to work on just about anything:

As you know the 3A, the 3B, the pick up’s and station wagons with 134 engines and side mounting; all used the exact same radiator.
I once had an early one that I think was removed from an early pickup ? Anyway being an earlier vintage Harrison it had the honeycomb core.
Now I wish I still had that honeycomb version.
Anyone have one of those side mount Harrison radiators with the honeycomb core ? I could sure use some specs concerning the size of the honey comb that was used to build them.

I am working on my M38 which has the original radiator. IDK if that is the same or not. It is bottom mount but weighs a ton. I took it out this afternoon and it is sitting beside the house.
How would I identify the core you are asking about? I'd be glad to measure it for you if it is the same core type.

Mark take a fairly close pic from the front or the back and we can see the type of core construction it has.
We wanna see the shape and the voids between the tubes.
    I’m guessing it’s a 9/16” cellular type core ???
I would post pics but “My Willys Pics” is down .

    Interesting Mark.
I did not remember what was original on the M38.
That’s what is called a “fin and tube” type of core.
They are further defined by the exact distance between the vertical tubes.
Willys used a relatively wide tube distance so the cores were not liable to plug up with dust/ dirt.
    Thanks for posting.
You might wanna measure the distance between tubes for future reference.

Anyone have an original Willys Harrison with a honeycomb core ?

    Thanks for the pics.
That’s yet another tube and fin design.
This one has crinkled fins between the tubes.
And note how large the voids are between the horizontal fins.
I believe that was to keep dirt and dust from clogging up the core.
But the main thing here is that the tubes are on 9/16” centers.
My current radiator has the cellular design core on 9/16” centers.
Any one else have some old Harrison or Modine radiator core pics ?

The part number 648879 suggests it’s most likely from 1949.
    I suspect it’s a bottom mount from a 1949 cj3a.
I’ll see if I can get Bob W’s opinion.

Here you see a side mount Harrison cj3a radiator vintage 1951-53 era.
I think this is called a sine wave core ???

Here you see a side mount Harrison cj3b radiator vintage ???
This is called a cellular core.
Note here that Harrison began using their own part numbers, not Jeep part numbers.

Here you see a side mount Modine cj5 radiator vintage 1965.
This is called a fin and tube core.
    This is a Dauntless radiator.

Later I’ll take some pics of an OEM Modine that I have for a 1965 3b.

I see 648879 as a Blackstone Radiator for a CJ-3B and 649638 as a Blackstone Radiator for the 475 series. Both of these part numbers are optional with a bunch of other radiator part numbers.

    Thanks Bob.
I looked in my early master parts list and came up empty.
Blackstone you say. I had no idea on that.
I supposed the early rads were all Harrison’s.
So it looks like Blackstone was using actual civilian Jeep part numbers yet the later Harrisons did not ?
I believe all side mounted 3A’s the 3B’s the SW’s and PU’s were basically all interchangeable.
And apparently swapping those radiators seems to be very common.
I am amazed at how many different styles of cores were used over the years and am trying to understand what core type is correct for a given model and vintage.
I once had a 1953 3B with a honeycomb type core and supposed those may have been early PU cores.
