Lovely work as usual, keep it up!

I plan on borrowing a few of your techniques and ideas when I get back to my build.

I feel like home schooling should include a semester of shop class. A semester where the students just sit quietly and watch.

Trust me. I suggest it daily. Both the students and administration have shown resistance. :susp:

I've been busy, just not on the Varg. I tripped and fell into the deal of the century. The dad of a friend of my wife is an old farmer who just sort of acquires new junk when his old junk no longer works. Rather than fixing, selling, or otherwise disposing of his broken stuff, he just collects. His family is reaching a breaking point with the amount of crapola sitting around the farm, so his daughter brokered a deal.

All I had to get this running for them.

He had a "mechanic" look at it years ago and he said the timing chain skipped a tooth. I spent about a week on this and found no issues with the timing. Compression was great, cam chain was tight, I set the valves to spec, but the auto-decompressor was way out of adjustment, keeping the exhaust valve partially open. Besides that, the starter needed a rebuild and the entire fuel system was a mess. The tank was a total loss. 'Tis the season for building fuel tanks, right?!! The fuel lines inside the tank were compacted with tar beyond cleaning, and they were welded into the tank. I cut them and the fuel neck out and built a new tank out of 16g that retained the cap and petcock in the stock locations.

In return for my getting that running like a top, he delivered two other Honda quads for me to have!
One is an '86 TRX250. This one is pretty rough. I got it running after cleaning out the fuel system, but the petcock leaks bad, the timing chain is worn out, and the whole front end is too floppy to drive safely. This one is going under the knife to turn it into an all terrain, Fat Cat-style utility dirt bike. E-start with kickstart backup, ultra-low gearing, shaft drive and reverse. It will be a blast in the rocks. Stay tuned for a build thread if I can find all the parts I'm looking for.

The other one is a '91 TRX300 that even came with a complete snow plow.

This one took some elbow grease, but it cleaned up nicely! After another fuel system re-do, valve adjustment, oil change, brake adjustment and a bath, it is up and running like a top. All it needs is a battery. I am flat-out shocked at how well it runs, and why anyone would just give these away.

In all, I'm out around $150 in parts and a week of labor to get that blue one running. That just happened to be how much $ I got out of the busted up plow pump I took off my 3B and sold on Craigslist!

I needed a little break from ironing edgebanding on cabinet doors, so I made a shipping box so I can finally send this shaft off to be shortened. The lid locks it in place. It's 33 pounds total. I'm sure the guys at Moser will get a laugh. How a cabinetmaker ships axles:

    HA!
Make sure you're VERY clear about what you want them to do. I was VERY clear, but wasn't clear enough.

I was fully prepared to see some clever "convertible" feature that makes the container 7 1/2" shorter for the return trip...followed by me feeling like I need to up my game. Thanks for keeping it real.

Nice work as per usual. (y)

We'll see! It should be fairly indestructible. It's glued, stapled, screwed and nailed.

So when this comes back in a cardboard box you will put away the wood and we will see a flurry of activity on the Varg yes?

    Gotta finish the hippo first.
But yes... I have plans for the next step first chance I get. You guys think it just gets ignored during these long breaks, but these are my planning stages. :sneak: I think I figured something out that's been bugging me.
