Sorry so many updates lately; I've been on a tear.

I figured I'd throw the body back on to make sure my measurements were correct. I had to shave about 1/4" off the front edge of my front steering box mount's giant weld, but otherwise, everything is looking good. You can see why I had to shave that blank casting off the top of the box. Clearances are tight.

I changed my mind on the grill modification. I ended up cutting out the lower sweep on the DS and moving it over 3 1/2" to clear the box. I really couldn't stomach doing all the work of shortening the whole grill, just to be covered by a winch some day.

Here's a shot from above to show how everything is fitting in the engine bay. The radiator was originally offset to the DS (to make room for the battery? or just to line up with the fan?). I think I may have to cut the diverters out of the grill and flip them so I can offset my radiator to the pass. side to avoid the steering box.

    Thanks man.
Yeah, it's hard to look away from those offset TREs. I'm sure they're just as strong, and I see them as low as $18 for the 1-tons.

I love the not cutting up of the grill. That looks perfect. Love the steering gear where it is too. Makes life a lot easier with the pressure line and whatever else you're throwing up front. Killer!

That's where I'm headed. The adjuster holes are next. (y)

This is where the buckets started. I've been saving this nice sheet of cold-rolled 3/16" just for this part of the project.

    25 tapped holes later...

This thing will be sitting on its own springs for the first time in 9 years later tonight!

I can adjust the buckets to move the jeep one inch higher and two inches lower. I'm starting with the springs at the compressed height of a stock Cherokee. I'm assuming the front of a Cherokee is heavier than this will be, so I wanted to err on the side of it being too tall to start with.

I'll update after I weld it up and do my happy dance. :)

Now I have to see if I remember how to weld vert-up.

    Boingy boingy!!

I threw my old crusty 3b windshield on it to get some motivation. The front end is sitting about 3" higher than I want it to finish out at, but I won't mess with the height until it's done.

The good: Almost everything works as planned. It feels amazing. So soft. And I was unhappy with only one of my vertical-up welds enough to grind it out and try again. That's one thing you really have to continue practicing to stay good at.

The bad: I'm entirely unhappy with where the shocks are ending up. My most recent plan was to run an anti-sway bar across the shock towers and stick the links down through the coil springs (hence the hole in the top of the bucket).

I think now I'm going to use the shock mount locations for a more traditional frame-mounted sway bar, and run the shocks down through the coils. It will make for a much tidier engine compartment, and I won't have to worry about shock/headlight clearance.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to call it quits on this before my wife kills me. I can feel her losing patience over me getting 4 1/2 hours of sleep per night over something that isn't bringing in an income. :worry: Plus, firewood season is almost among us. The snow is finally melting. Time to prep the saws and truck.

    Thanks for following!

Those kind of project take time to complete, when is custom work you have to take time.

When i was doing my first coil spring i may have do 500 hours of work after job and week-end in 3 months but i was single and i had lot of time to loose.

Now i have my home, girlfriend, a 4 month old little girl so time in the garage is limited.

Keep on the nice work and we will continu to follow when you'll be back to the project.
