If anybody has a cheap V6/M38A1 Ross steering box available in the Pacific Northwest, I'd be interested in it.

I'd like to minimize downtime and rebuild a box ahead of time to swap into the Jeep.

Refreshing this. Still looking for a V6/M38a1 Ross steering box. Even if you have one you cut the column off of.

Hah, that's for the CJ-2, this one's too original to start hacking up.

I do have a spare complete Ross box for the V6, but I'm down in California. You can PM if you strike out locally.

I cut the shaft off of mine. Easier to ship. Free. If I didn’t throw it away.

Can one of you folks with a chopped box weigh it? I can figure out shipping costs that way.

I think I'll go the chopped box route since the shipping will be much easier. At least I can get the sector shaft bushings replaced and deal with the pins ahead of time. Then it's just dealing with the steering shaft bearings once I pull the Jeep apart (assuming my worm gear is good).

V6 in an A1? Do tell. That doesn't sound original.

The M38a1 and the V6 CJ5/6s use a heavier duty steering box with a 15/16" shaft instead of the 4-cyl box with a 7/8" shaft. Everything I've read indicates M38a1 and V6 boxes are interchangeable.

Got it. I'm aware the A1 box is heavier duty. I didn't know it was interchangeable with the v6 box.

I might have a box without the sector shaft, worm screw or bearings. Can't remember what it's out of.

A A1 box will work in a V6 Jeep, you will have to cut the nub off the bottom of the box where the horn wire comes out.

Is there a particular casing number to ID these, I know I have a couple Ross Boxes I acquired with a V6 CJ-5 a few years ago and stuck on a shelf somewhere.
