Ok fellers, here's my list. Those of you who saw my flattie at Tellico know it's condition and those of you who follow the 'board are bored with the status updates to date. Here's what I've got on the drawing boards, please feel free to comment freely on the wisdom/folly of my choices of future upgrades.

    In this order:

Free-flowing exhaust w/ stock manifold. (not debateable)

Lock-right locker for the D-41. (Unless of course a D-44 with a locker drops out of the sky, within say, 3 hours' drive from 'da Burgh!)

Shipping the Husky OD to Herm for analysis/rebuild.

Engineering winch-points into the rear crossmember & front bumper/frame.

    MSD-6A box and matching coil.

Lock-right locker for the D-25 up front. (See similar diatribe above)

    Rear disc/Corvette MC conversion.

Rear tire mount. (Kayline or homebrew?)

    Optima Red-top battery.

Custom 2x1 Bbl. intake w/ dual Solexes and "stock-looking" oil-bath setup.

    Name for the Jeep? :?

    Idears? :? :?

The tire mount is a neccesity. I like the tow bar variety :D
    The battery choice is good.
The lockers and overdrive IMO are the best additions that can be made to any Jeep.
The winch points are nice to have.
11" rear drums work nicely; rear disc if you have the $$
The ignition, exhaust, and intake upgrades are luxury items; not necc to run about, but impressive when the hood is popped; sorta like frosting on the cake.
    I like the KISS philosophy.
all above depend on your intended usage and likes/dislikes
    sorry, no name ideas
yellow submarine ? (it keeps the checkbook at periscope depth)

Thanks for the input Jim. I'm actually thinking about bumping the ignition upgrades up the list a bit, based upon experience with a friend's flathead V-8 rod. The (hidden) MSD really woke that old flathead up! The rest of your points are very valid IMHO. The free-flow exhaust is up there based upon how poorly the Crown Auto pipes fit, and how badly they got banged up at Tellico on some pretty mild trails. I'm looking to tuck them up out od the way and use a freer-flowing muffler IYKWIM. ;) The rear locker is a must before the next trail-ride (spring Tellico) and the front may be possible(depending on the whims of the Domestic Finance Goddess.)

I would do the front locker before the rear. Especially now that you have the saginaw steering you shouldn't have any problems turning the wheels. Plus that will give you a little more time for you to find a D-44.

I always lobby for frame-mounted spare tire setups...wouldn't want to mess up the body on that looker...;) I had a tow-bar / spare tire setup for a year or so and wouldn't recommend it unless the tow bar is for emergency use only. It made flat-towing a real chore.

Now, why would you need a winch point on the rear crossmember????

edit- Because I thought your pintle hitch worked just fine...:D

MSD box's are a true wonder and worth the money in my opinion, the dual solex is a way cool idea.

In (Oddball voice) so you can get outta trouble as fast as you got into it, but then again you should know this Mr Winch:D The pintle hook did seem to work just fine though.
My front locker was one of the best mods I made, now the rear one is next on my list.;)
Tire mount, I vote homebrew and mount to the frame or rear crossmember instead of to the body. Mine is mounted to the rear channel and has a license mount on it, it will have a jerry can mount by May this year.

I'm against the front only locker, IME,YMV,a rear locker IS the way to go.
On steep climbs the wieght is to the rear of the Jeep. So whats the front locker doing? Nothing.
I know we had a long thread last year about how y'all up north like the front only becuase of snow.
I Jeeped for over 20 years with no locker at all.
I'm talking Tellico, Beasley Knob Windrock etc.
Did Tellico 2 times and Windrock more than I can think about all with no locker in the YJ.
Dont buy a locker for the 41 if you are going to end up with a 44. ;)
Put the $ somewhere else in the Jeep. Like a winch.
On the stock exhaust, are you going to clean up the inside of the manifold?
Gasket match it and polish it out and it'll flow well.
I love MSD, they have an epoxy filled version just for offroad also.

On a side note about front lockers, the only times I've seen front axles break is on Jeeps with a front locker.
If you have to have a front locker spend the coin and spring for an ARB. ;)
Then you have it if you need it, but an open front end the rest of the time.
Most of my buddies run this way, they dont even turn the front on till they get to a very tough obestical that they tried 1st with out it being turned on. ;)
