My wife says that's a great pic. I told her she must not have seen the "Jeep" in the picture...

Ya know, I really enjoyed it out in the desert yesterday. I looove wheeling a beater. The power steering box leaks, the pump squeals, the rear spring add-a-leafs make it bone-jarringly stiff, and there's no passenger-side floor, but I had a smile on my face the whole day! I'm getting pumped to start building it up properly.

Still think the front sheetmetal is felony-ugly, but I've always wanted a Jeepster. I just settled for the Jeepster's ugly, buck-toothed cousin.

I would consider one, if the price were right. Already got parts, a D44 flanged rear axle in the garage out of a 71 Jeepster. Now to buy a vehicle that could use it!

Update - mounted some 35s on the beadlocks from my '48 Willys pickup and cut enough body to fit 'em. Still need to nibble a bit more in the front of the front wheelwells.

Next stop, rebuild the leaky power steering pump and then it's time to order some tubing for a cage and rockers. Once the cage is done I'll mount the Mastercrafts from my Ramcharger and use one of the Wrangler buckets and the Wrangler bench to create seating for five. Shoulder belts this time: no race harnesses.

Then I'm gonna shorten a full-size Dana 44 (I'm thinking early '80s Dodge) and build up a Ford 9-inch for the rear. Will probably slap a 32-spline output on the back of the Dana 20 T-case. I'll leave the 2.0:1 Low and will probalby make up the difference with axle gearing. If it's too bad I'll go Dana 300 or something else. I've got a Stak Monster Box, but I'd have to put a GM shaft in the TH400 to run it. That and notch the framerail. Once the axles are in I'll build a 350hp AMC 360 and have a new exhaust built that doesn't hang below the framerails. That'll probably hold me for a while 'till I cut more for 38s.

It will probably be something that he doesn't own yet. This will probably have come and gone by the time the 'con comes around.

It's already cut for the boatsides. They're gonna be shallow and come only to the bottom of the doors.

I'll most likely have this one for a couple years (or at least 'till the frame cracks in half or the body is just tattered). It's gonna be my trail beater that fits the whole family. My flattie is only a 2-seater and I don't really want to thrash my Wrangler with a bunch of body damage.

That's a bit of a sore spot. Long story short, I sold it to a guy who sold it to a guy who parted and crushed it.

After completely gutting it, using the Mopar 300hp 360 crate engine, Klune/NP205, Dynatrac front and Dodge HD Dana 60 rear axles in some FSJ project he was building, he sold the NP435, hydro steering, cage, and everything else. Then I got a photo of it being lowered into the junkyard crusher. A big crane had it by the roof and was dropping it into the hopper. It's a 2x2x2 cube of maroon steel now. Probably an iron girder over in China.
