tube fenders

    anybody in Pa. build tube fenders?or know someone who will.been thinking about puttin some on my 64,all the ones i found on net between 3 to 5 bills seemed a little steep.

    I am eventually going to make a set, i have put it on the shelf for now. But i was going to make the ultra cheapie version out of electrical conduit and sheetmetal. You can bend the conduit easily, and best thing is the set of fenders will cost about $10 so they can be sacrificial for the trail gods. I really do not see the need to have a set of fenders be a high lift jack point on the trail.

    well my brother is an electrician,so i could get that part cheap.buthow sturdy do you think they would be?dont want them flappin like bird wings going down the road.i hate to cut my old ones apart for bad experement,thier still in good shape,i just like the flattie look.i aint puttin no jack there either.

    They should b eplenty strong. My broken fiberglass fender has been flapping for years now and it still hasnt frickin broken off yet :( Only realy downside is welding the galvanizing, make sure to do it in a very open area and drin ka nice tall glass of Milk.

    i wonder if they make other metal conduit that aint galv?hell i have been in construction for years and dont know.but i do think you can get3/8 rebar not to hard to bend as long as the radius is not to tight.thats something to look at.

    Make sure that you get "weldable" rebar. There is a difference. I would concrete so I Use the stuff all the time. I actually now work in the welding/maintnence department. I would go with 4 or 5 bar before I would go with just 3 bar. Like shooter said, 3 bar is not hard to bend, actually to easy if you ask me. With a pipe over the end of it you could bend 5 bar with out much trouble. You just need to plan out all your bends to accomedate the next bend. Good luck. Zach

    These probabally don't count since they are for my CJ2a. Built a one piece front clip last week from 1" x .120 tubing. And the fenders are skinned with 1/8" plate. Friend of mine did the bending.

    wow those are nice.i decided to use black iron pipe.friend of mine gets it free,and has a bender,only thing i gotta buy is somrthing to skin them,i might try eighth inch diamond plate,just because i know where some is laying around i can get for cheap. i like using those words in the same sentence.
