Currently I have 1 next to the fuel filter, goes to front of drivers side engine. Then it goes 65432 which I thought was correct but it's back firing before it starts.

When finding TDC, make sure the "points" on the center shaft
are pointing to the "wider" lobes on the pickup module and not the short ones. With the
rotor pointing at #1 plug wire at TDC, the point directly under rotor on the center shaft
should be pointing at the "wider" lobe on the pickup module.

When I replaced my headers I only took the wires off the plugs and I kept track of which three wires went to each side. I never touched the distributor or timing or anything like that and it was running great before.

Yeh HEI. I know the wires are going to the correct sides, just need to connect them now.

The orientation of the HEI dist is correct with the vacuum can under the rad hose. The nr#1 tower on the cap is just to the left of the ignition feed wire where it plugs into the cap and the rest in cw rotation 65432. Mark the dist housing where the nr#1 tower and plug wires are located and lift the cap off and rotate the engine to 5* BTDC and the rotor should be pointing at number one or you may be 180 out. If not on nr#1 or 180 out then you will need to remove nr1 plug rotate engine to bring up compression. Once you are on compression stroke then set to the 5* BTDC and put the rotor to point at nr#1. You may have to raise the dist and turn the rotor to achieve alignment for nr1.

Yes your wires on the cap are correct. Just look at Fockers dwg and plug the wires on the plugs per that sequence.

Then my power steering made a horrid noise and I shut it off as fast as possible. Have to look at that tomorrow. What would happen if you had the pressure side and non-pressure side hooked up wrong?

    Out of fluid?
I didn't think that was possible? Aren't they different fittings?

It has fluid. There are different fittings. I have a feeling the used pump I bought is, well... used. As in used up. I'll take the belt off tomorrow and see. The power brakes feel amazing tho.

Your pump will sound like a howling dog until you work all of the air out of it.

Yeh, that's what it sounded like. I didn't like it, maybe I'm just a snowflake . It made an AAARRRRGGGHHHHH noise, the wheel jerked a bit and it felt like the engine had a load on it when it started making noise.

How do you work the air out?

Yep, watched a russian guy show me how with a cool accent.

Hopefully I didn't ruin the pump, I didn't run it very long at all, engine didn't even get hot, barely warm actually. The calyx rub on the manifolds didn't even smoke.
