I got the new accelerator pump. Does it use the pump delay retainer on my carb ?

It should be set-up like the pic in my previous post (with spring and retainer)...

It should be held pretty firmly in a groove on the plastic piece. Kind of goes up over that cone and "snaps" into a groove. Nothing other than that holding it on that I have seen.

So I took the carb off, took it apart and cleaned it all up, blew air thru everything, all clear. I did notice the check valve ball under the accelerator pump was stuck. I had to soak a bit in carb cleaner. Freed it up. Put it together, still runs great, accelerates without hesitation but just won't idle like it runs out of gas. Idle mixture screws are out 2 turns as per fsm.

Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to check for manifold leaks, etc?

Anyone think keeping off the exhaust valve has anything to do with it ?

Did you do the starter fluid trick? Spray around the carb base checking for a vacuum leak.

I've used water in the past aswell. Propane is an option too but you're taking your life in your hands.

Not likely. Once the engine is warmed up a functioning exhaust heat riser opens fully and is essentially removed from the system.
I do not run a heat riser on either one of my 225's... one had headers and the other has cast iron manifolds and the heat riser was removed years ago.
As mentioned by others there are tiny passages in the carburetor for the idle circuit, an ultra sonic cleaner, guitar strings, solvent works well to clean them. You had mentioned that the check ball under the accelerator pump was stuck, perhaps the carb is not as clean as it should be. The idle circuit tubes & wells along with the tiny passages all work in conjunction with the proper float level, vacuum level and atmospheric vents, a little bit of obstruction can be very troublesome.
Here is a pretty good description of the carb's idle circuit http://www.carburetor-parts.com/assets/2 Jet.pdf
Also check for vacuum leaks as suggested, I watched your video and when I had a similar issue it was a vacuum leak that was the culprit.
This issue is frustrating but you have demonstrated that you have a mechanical aptitude, I believe that you can work through this problem without sending the carb out for service.

Edited to fix auto spelling mistake.

I appreciate that but I've been messing with this thing for a week and I've about had it they could rebuild it totally in two days so I'm going to just take it down there and yes I did the vacuum test with the carb cleaner and it didn't change the tone of the engine at all
