I have gone through pains to get my tcase so dry the drum and shoes have remained without any oil on them (yes the case has oil!). Now I want to attach my parking brake handle to my tcase brake lever. Couple queries:

    1. The handle attaches to the left of the steering wheel under the dash and the cable routes out through the firewall?

    2. I need a cable and all fitting/connections. Will a stock cable be long enough now that I have a 4 speed?

    3. Is there a bracket under the Jeep that holds the cable to the transfer case or somewhere under there? The factory service manual just shows the handle attached to the cable and the other end of the cable attached to the parking brake actuator arm...my thought is that the cable housing needs to clamp down somewhere under there in order to operate correctly.

With T98 or T18 you need a cable that’s roughly 5-1/2” longer than std.
You need #911693 which is 69-3/8” long.

3 yes cable mounts to cross member
    cable bracket1 - Copy.JPG

two allen head socket bolts is original location on cross member . when it still was a T 14

Mine has a bracket sticking up from the crossmember, that holds the end of the cable housing. Although I’m not sure if that’s stock, as mine also has a spring on the other side being held by a chain that looks like it came from a lamp hanging above my great grandmas dining table.lol. 9E3A6F06-C239-468D-9234-E95D0480C5EB.jpeg

Thanks all. I think I got what I need. I'll order the cable now...I can't remember if that bracket is on my crossmember...if not I'll make one and go!

The bracket in this photo is for the engine stay cable, not the parking brake. A simple clamp like in Ron's photo holds the parking brake cable.

That’s actually very helpful. I had never heard of an engine stay cable and had to google it. Last weekend when installing my new clutch linkage, I was curious what type of cable the PO used to connect the clutch fork... now if i ever need a replacement, I know he used the engine stay cable

so I have an engine stay cable working as a clutch cable and the parking brake cable is routed thru the engine stay cable crossmember mount.

The clutch cable and engine stay cable look very similar, but the lengths are different. Sorry, but I don't have the lengths handy. Maybe someone can chime in?

I just bought a bunch of parking brake cable parts. I need to decide what Kind of handle I'm going with and then I'm off to the races. I think for my 64 that I would have had a cane-type, but I'm still doing some research.

Your '64 would have had the early plastic T handle with a small hook at each end of the T. The assembly mounts under the left side of the dash, and the other end stubs through the firewall via a grommet.

Two more questions. How does the cable mount to the handle? I don’t want to damage anything trying to get that little lead ball thing into the handle. And where can I get that threaded clevis that attaches to the brake arm at the drum?

Take the handle assembly loose fromnthe dash and it has a round cutout for the ball. Turn the handle and it has a matching cutout.

The clevis might be found at a good hardware or tractor repair facility.

to install cable into handle . remove from dash , there are two ratchet clips on top just behind handle . lift them up . this will allow the handle to move forward and turn past lock

I believe I have everything EXCEPT the clip that holds the cable to the handle. Looks like I need a small clip of some sort but nothing in my pile works. Any ideas on what size that clip is or if some dealer just sells it?
