The thought crossed my mind to invest in a trailer incase I decide to take the Jeep to a rally across the country, or a military tdy or something, or for my hobbies, now... what would be the best trailers for a CJ5? I want something that looks military. I heard about the M416, are there others out there?

Don't get an American 101, they're too big for a Jeep.

The Canadian M101 is a newer version of the M416 for most purposes.

American M101s look like a BIG M416. They're made to be pulled behind Hummers, they do well behind full size trucks. They push a little CJ-5 around a bit though.

For a CJ-5, the following 1/4 ton trailers would work:

WWII MBT or T3 (Manufactured by Willys and Bantam, lunette ring/pintle hitch, round fenders, no tailgate)

Post WWII M100 (Basically an updated MBT/T3, various mfrs, lunette ring/pintle hitch, round fenders, no tailgate)

Bantam T3-C (Manufactured by Bantam from 1946-1953, a civilian version of the WWII T3, round fenders, with fulton hitch and tailgate. My favorite for jeep camping as the tailgate is quite useful.)

M416 (Various manufacturers from approx. 1967+, replaced the M100, lunette ring/pintle hitch, angled fenders, no tailgate)

Canadian M101 (similar to American M416)

Here is a link to photos of my 1946 Bantam T3-C (towed behind my family's CJ-5 when I was a teenager, recently restored and now towed behind my CJ-7):

Hi Jeff...don't wait to buy or look for a "good" trailer. It may take a few years to find a good one, in your area, at the price you want to pay. When your jeep is done you don't want to be rush to find a trailer and have to select some crap. My trailer has been rebuilt for 5 years now but my cj is still not finished!
