I'm no expert, but that sounds reasonable to me. The only problem I see is keeping the wheel straight, but that can't be too difficult.

Towing backwards with the front wheels on the ground is a nightmare. Tried it once with a mustang. Thing was all over the road, even with the steering wheel locked in place. Remember, the front axle is set up with caster to go forward. You reverse that and that thing is moving all over the place. Try backing your Jeep up and take your hand off the wheel and see what happens. Just don't go too fast, don't want anyone getting hurt.

Sounds like the drive would be a cool way to get there!

While I would never do it. I remember reading on the jeep forums a few years back about a guy who hauled his willy's cj2a in the back of his old Ford F250 pickup. To get it in and out, he went to a local gas station and had the jeep raised on the drive on lift. Then he backed up the pickup to lift, lowered the lift to the just above the floor of the pickup and drove the jeep into the back of the pickup. If I am not mistaken, I think he had to build a little ramp for the wheel wells of the pickup.

Who knows probably a good idea if you had a full size truck with long bed and did not care to much about the bed or the jeep.

I just did a web search to see if I could find a picture of someone doing this. Could not find one.

Need a 2 ton truck to pull that bad boy. Try renting from other places, I found Hertz EQUIPMENT rental had no problem w/hauling my jeep, they only wanted the height/width and weight.

Check the states you are driving through. In the east Ct requires that a vehicle whose wheels touch pavement, as in a dolly, be insured, inspected and registered. I don't know what other states have the same rule.

There is a "single trip permit" available from most (all?) states. Still need insurance, but your regular policy may cover it.

    Here's some state towing info:
    http://www.rvsafety.com/state.htm

FWIW, both my dad and I have used dolly's on long multi-state trips, and have never had any issues.

I towed my original 2a from Michigan to MN on a car dolly and it was scary. Not enough weight over the tounge to get it to handle right.

They fit better on U-hauls open trailers than on their car haulers. :) This is one I hauled from Green Bay to Indianapolis for a guy, I was on my way to pick up a 3a in Indianapolis and bring it back to MN

For what it's worth - your 'Home State' rules apply when an issue of towing comes up. IE if what your doing (tow setup wise) is legal in your home state (where the tow vehicle is registered) the other states can not touch you. I know this from experience.

NOTE: this applies to PERSONAL use ONLY. If it is comercial or if you say you are being paid to haul it, all bets are off.

That's a pretty standard type of trailer and price. No reason to pay $300 on top of that for them to deliver, just check your local yellow pages for a trailer dealer.

Looks like they only come with brakes on one axle. You'll be happier if you have them on both. In MN it's required to have them on each axle, but we get a lot of them crossing the border from WI that only have them on one.

Erik, look around for a local trailer builder. You can buy a trailer like that here, with brakes on all wheels for 1100 to 1300.

wow, i think i jsut got lucky, i found a guy locally in the paper, that made a car trailer into a enclosed trailer. he says it has lights on the inside, a generator, cabinets, dual axle w/ elec brakes. he says that it could use some paint, but he only wants 1100.00 for t, i think i could even talk him down. i am going to try and take a look at it tonight

Sounds like a big trailer. What are you towing with?
Only major things to check on a used trailer is the tires (obviously) and brakes, if they are not working right it can get expensive and time consuming to fix them.
