Well looks about average over all.
    Which is good.

First thing I would do is pressure wash the whole thing.

Then drain all the fluids and take off all the inpection covers you can and take a good look see.

If you cant get the motor to turn over than start with taking a head off at a time and see whats there.
Starting to sound like you may want to think about a rebuild or other options...

I am pretty certain you have a d44 rear in it which with the full floter makes more scince.

If you can get above the diff and look down on top of the webbed areas you should find a 44 cast into the flat area.

Make a plan before you start taking it all apart:)

That rear end is worth the price!

    30. Hole in the cover (covered with bondo?) is suspicious too. Exploding gears will put holes in the cover.

I would not get too excited about that axle.

Wow! You beat me to it grouperboy, I do in fact believe that is a dirt dauber nest I have yet to knock off. But on a more serious note, it seems the majority of you think it is a D30, I will try to get above it to take a look down at the stamping when I get a chance this weekend. Also, anyone notice the whole mono-leaf rear suspension this fella was running? Definitely a wierd combo, has 3.31 gears to!?

I am wrong on the diff.
I have to admit I didnt compare it to the chart there.

    My bad.

The way its rounded at the bottom, and the notch by the drain doesnt go all the way up.:(
So it is a D30 as stated.
They did come with mono leafs also.
There was an option for more but 1 was stock at least from 66 to 70.

From what I have read anybody can chime in here.

They wanted it to be a softer ride but still tow a small boat ,or whatever behind it.
So they used a soft spring but made it longer behind the axle,
and also outboarded them to keep it more stable.

Not much good for any lift or mods though.

    Mine has a second leaf.
Not sure if was after market or what.

Our 70 Vert is a mono leaf D30 and it does ride nice :). I think it's probably the last of the Jeepsters with a D30.

I would pull the heads on the engine. With as much rust as there is in the engine bay, I would not be surprised to find out they had the hood up during some of that time out in the open.
