so I'm not leading you astray, I hope...
    the Jeep #s are: 1110322, 1110342, 1110376.
That's not to say that Buick cars didn't use a different number for a V6 in the cars.
and I suppose rebuilders could use any housing that crosses their path, and install what they believe to be the right components for that particular application they are building.
so we still have some variables.

I'm north of St Francis, up in the north west corner, close to 3 corners.

and numbers 1112111 and 1112112 are for V8s....
close to your number, but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

So you think it's possible this could be a dist. for an even fire, possibly a 231?

Any info on how I can verify this shaft to be an odd fire v6?

did you try searching here on this site ?
there was an HEI write-up (somewhere) that showed how to convert an even fire HEI to odd fire HEI (or visa versa) that had pretty good pictures.
searching around the net or someone else here can help, maybe with the pictures.

Back to the basics, correct me if I'm wrong here. #1 TDCC, set dist in so as rotor points to #1 contact on the cap adj. timming?

Double check the point gap/dwell as well.

My search shows that dist housing is for a 455 Buick as already said. If it was converted to the odd fire V6 it would have the 3 lobe shaft in it. The lobes are what open and close the points when it rotates. You will only have three. If you have six or eight it won't work.

so then Walt, we can assume that rebuilders are using whatever available housings pass their way, and stuffing the appropriate innards inside depending on application.

Not saying it came from a rebuilder. Just asking if his friend got it from somebody that maybe got the dist mixed up with one he thought was converted for the odd fire but in fact is for the 455.

My distributor shaft has the three lobes on it (flat, flat, hump). What is the difference in the two dist. caps for this dist?

the obvious difference is the positioning of the window.
this would suggest different position for the points mounting plate inside the dist.
I believe the towers are positioned the same.
without having both in front of me to compare, this is all I recall.

If the contacts in the two caps were in different places, in relation to where the rotor contacts the cap, that would efect the timming. I have the cap with the window on #1 tower. Any body out there have any pictures of the other cap? It's probly a long shot but if it is some thing as simple as I have the wrong cap I better buy a lottery ticket!
