Early '60's CJ6 for parts
Score! Grab the ventilating windshield!
I can't swing the road trip right now or I would not have posted it on here until it was in my driveway.
I see some good parts there . again way too far
And the seller doesn't even mention the windshield frame! Definitely a good buy there.
Now that seems to be a deal and a half!
Damn, I paid more than that for just a windshield
I've considered the options, done the calculations and came to the conclusion that my best play is to dislike whoever gets this for $300.
ok - so I could drive up there in just over 3hrs and it looks like it could be flat towed home (might have to check some wheelbearings and rubber). I am afraid to ask if I should on here as that is like asking a addict if he wants some more crack. I'd love a cj6 - but its a helluva project for me to try and swap in some engine (not an F134). I could see tearing it apart - boxing the frame and finishing it up nice...figuring out a v6 swap or something etc...Not sure about that half cab - I like half-cabs on cj6 or 8 (or even a jeepster), but not sure about that modified one. I'll ask my wife tonight when she gets home...if she says yes...we'll see what happens. Can't go get it till Sun but... Its a big project to get it running and not sure about the missing title aspect either - think Doug has mentioned its not so easy to deal with here in Colo.
What time are ya leavin' James?
Would it help if we all called your wife? Err, I mean talked to her to let her know how much you need this Jeep.
Hmmm, I have time off to spend!
Make it interesting and take an engine with you and swap it in in their driveway and drive it back.
If it helps, I will give you the 300 bucks if you give me the windshield. Now you get a "free" Jeep. Heck, I could even split the gas money with you.
Who would be crazy enough to try a thing like that?
Hmmmm, thinking. I believe I know but I won't say.....yet.
I could probably send a standard ws frame without glass pretty cheap by Fastenal so you would still have a complete Jeep.
How far is Wyoming ? Never mind.
Wife didn't completely rule this out! She likes the half-cab look and the longer wheelbase (her preference is a cj8). The absolute biggest concern is trying to figure out a title. From my limited research today online, it looks like its going to be difficult if it was never previously titled in CO. Might have to go through a title process in Wyoming first, then get it transferred to CO. This is the single biggest issue...I don't really have an interest to buy a parts vehicle.
Additionally, as it is just a shell of a vehicle, she is concerned about the long term aspect of the project and how much money it would cost to build. We would like to make it a bit more modern - maybe with sbc. This would be one that would be completely torn down, and everything built in from the start like D30, ugraded brakes, saginaw, boxed frame etc - no attempt to keep it original - just make it the best possible jeep we can affort. Guessing that is going to cost more than we might be comfortable spending. In theory, I would sell the cj5 afterwards to offset a bit of cost (and maybe swap out some of the better pieces). Our income is much lower this year than it has been in the past due to my wifes employment situation changing - and we are not sure if she will return to her previous field, or head a new direction (she has been back in school for a bit). We have some hope of moving and leaving our current situation for more seasonal employment (and drastically less income) as well as less ability to have stuff if we are more transient. Additionally I don't even have a good place to keep right now, more or less over time.
We are not heading up to Casper on Sun...sorry to disappoint...but I am going to give the seller a call and try to get some info and some more pics. Obviously, as its a shell its got to be pretty rust free. Maybe he would also be able to help get a Wyo title first. We'll be heading through Casper in 2 weeks from another trip, so if it looks promising and it doesn't disappear before then, we will stop and take a first hand look with cash and tow bar in hand. If its gone before two weeks, then it wasn't meant to be.
