I currently have the body off of my 74'CJ5 and I am thinking (if $ permits) of getting the whole thing sandblasted as I have lots of welding and repair work to do on the underneath.

Looking for some recommendations for prepping the underbody for paint (underbody only not frame) once the work is done. Here are some ideas:

    1) Spray the underbody with Por 15, prime then paint
    2) Spray the underbody with Por 15 then paint, no primer
    3) Spray the underbody with primer and paint no Por 15

Any thoughts on what would be the best road?

    Thanks.

I had mine sandblasted and then used epoxy primer from Southern Polyurethanes...the stuff is tough as nails.

The primer has held up VERY well while I did other body work and moving the parts around, etc.

Haven't painted yet though. As you think about option 3, I think epoxy primer specifically is the way to go.

Epoxy primer (tint to match body color), Paint, top coat w/3M Body Schutz for abrasion resistance and sound deadening. Can topcoat that too if you want.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Epoxy primer and paint. Not sure if I will go the undercoat route I have thought about it but it will be a game time decision.
