The other issue I was wondering about....
On the T-98's... Is there any place in the casting or could be added for provisions of a "back up" switch..?

You can see this T98 shift tower has no reverse switch:

On T18’s Jeep added this switch in place of the left rear shift rail cap:

Or you could install a shift tower like this one from a Ford T18:

    Is the T-18 Tower a bolt-in swap..?
I have a spare T-98 in storage that maybe I could just jump on the lathe and modify that one...then just swap out the towers.

Yes some early Jeep T18’s will actually have T98 shift tower assemblies.
They are also interchangeable with Ford and IH so long as the shift pattern does not change.
As previously mentioned all of the post 1978 versions have a distinct different transmission case design and shift pattern.
Th0se late version shift tower assemblies used aluminum shift forks.
Essentially, so long as the forks are cast iron they are good to swap.

One other thought here while I am considering to pull this trans to fix a leaky oil seal on the engine.
When I installed this trans... It had a driveshaft E-Brake system mounted on the trans which I ( dumb ) removed as I had rear brakes that already had the E-Brakes.
Would anyone out there may have this assembly laying around not used.
Issue I have learned over the years....
When facing down-hill and need to "plant" it in place...Rear E-brakes just slide...
My thinking here... If I am in four-low and locked in.... Hitting this would lock ALL four corners..?
I found a complete trans on Ebay... Complete T98 WITH this E-Brake assembly, and have sent him a message to see if he is willing to sell just the E-Brake stuff.
I copied a picture of this from Ebay; was able to get the picture imported to a WORD document for reference.
Can't figure out how to get this picture to here though.

    Is this engine/transmission installed in a 4WD Jeep ?
If so do you have a D18 or D20 transfer case ?

Perhaps someone else can help you load pics...

If you're in 4wd, the front axle is hooked to the back, so your rear cable brakes will slow down the front axle just like a transfer case brake would. The advantage of the the transfer case brake is the braking torque it can generate is multiplied your axle gear ratio. You might be able to get more braking power of it. The disadvantage of a transfer case brake with open differentials is it's only braking the driveshaft. If you have one wheel on a slick surface or in the air, it can turn backwards and the other wheel can keep turning forwards. This isn't a problem with the rear wheel brakes since they are braking at the wheel itself.

This is the one from my ‘64 Ford truck T98. It’s well worn. It doesn’t have the flutes on the side, but if interested, you can have it if you send me a junk replacement. (Or if this one I have here from a scout will fit. Edit: it doesn’t.) I don’t care what mine looks like, I just need something to shift with.

Answer to ITLKSEZ.... Can I have some time to think on this..? Appreciate your help greatly..!
Answer to FireBall.... Yeah..agreed... Had not thought this through I guess. Last month while out... I was trying to pull a friend off a really deep rut with the winch. Had to back up the hillside to get in front of him ( no road surface ). Once positioned...reached back down to him with the winch... As I was pulling him out...noticed my truck was moving ( wheels rolling )..? Had the E-Brake set....? Trying to figure out how to "lock Down" the truck more secured. I have had this issue before.... The orange truck in my Avatar seen behind the jeep... :)
Answer to OldTime... have two projects going at same time... actually ( 3 )... The E-Brake is for my 58' Ford truck...hence the T-98. Second is the 46' Jeep ( Avatar )... Been working on getting the S-10 Mtr. sorted out after rebuilding the Mtr., T-90, and the D-18...in process...Running but not drivable as yet. Third project... 1946 Dodge Pickup... Converting the front over to disc's...replacing the rear-end with a narrowed rear-end from a 2002 Chev. Express ( 11" brakes )...Just awaiting the new, shortened axles from Utah to finish.
Then I have the boats to still get ready.... K-Boat with a 520 Blown BBC, and the boat my father gave me... 1928 ChrisCraft....Ready for this year's fun... :)

    Appreciate all the help folks..!
