You have a Dana 18, Spicer 18, or D-18 transfer case. A T-18 is a truck style 4 speed transmission made by Borg-Warner.
First, remove the pto cover from the back of the transfer case. Kind of round with 5 bolts. Remove the big nut holding the transfer case input gear onto the mainshaft (output shaft) and remove the gear. Then remove the 5 bolts holding the transfer case to the transmission. One of them goes in from the front into the transfer case, kind of behind and below the shifter mounts on the transfer case. People miss that one frequently. Carefully separate the two being very careful to NOT allow the mainshaft of the transmission to pull out or you will be disassembling and reassembling the transmission. There is a bearing between the transfer case and transmission (transmission output bearing) and there is a good chance it will stick in the transfer case. That's ok, as long as it doesn't take the transmission shaft with it.
This is all covered in the Factory Service Manual which is a very good resource for stuff like this and I'd highly recommend purchasing one if you don't have one.

In the books (Service Manual which I just received) it is said that the gear box and the transfer case are easy to disconnect but sometimes it is not so easy...:?

So, wait for answers of the specialists. Maybe there is a trick to disconnect them, you can try slowly.

Thanks , don't always get my letters correct , but this is the standard set-up for a cj . I will make mistakes , just want to avoid the unnecessary ones .

Just make sure you got all the bolts off. The sjaft might be stuck. Just work it back and forth. Might use two small pry bars ?it shouldn't be to hard to separate.
