If I'm careful, can I remove and replace the input shaft without removing the main shaft? I'm a bit worried about the input shaft bearing, and wouldn't mind replacing it, but I wasn't planning on splitting the trans/ transfer case. I'm trying to keep this from snowballing..

IIRC you'll need to take off the retainer, take the socket head screws out and let the oil slinger fall away from the input shaft and pull it out. Your roller bearing will fall out and into the case and you will cuss me for telling you to do this, then you'll get a magnet on a telescopic stick and get them out. i probably forgot something.

No need to remove the input shaft to change the input bearing if you have the right puller. A bearing splitter and associated puller works Patrick.

I have all that! :) But, I thought I might change the needle bearings as well. Thanks Nick.

Patrick, You might want to swap out the counter shaft. They wear out on the T90s. Put Novaks hardened shaft in. If you care careful, you can slide it right in without pulling the whole transmission apart.

If I recall, I don't believe the main drive gear will come out unless you drop the cluster gear.

Also the oil trough gets in the way without dropping the countershaft gear down to the bottom of the case.

I know you didn't want the project to snowball.....
But new T90 front and rear bearings + a small parts kit would be good insurance/tune-up.

I ordered a small parts kit...:)

edit> I had ordered a full rebuild kit, minus synchros or blocking rings. They look good...

I thought I could drop the oil collector, wire up the main shaft to support it, and pull the input shaft. I was going to try this so I could replace the needle bearings and the input shaft bearing. But, I guess it's be silly not to go ahead and separate the transfer case and install the small parts kit.

OK Jim, I distinctly remember you telling folks on more than one occasion to do thing right the first time..:)
I went out and separated the trans from the transfer case, and disassembled it. I had already ordered a rebuild kit, so I'm going to rebuild the trans, and the cluster shaft shows some wear, so I ordered a hardened one from Novak.

    ;) :tea:

You have the skill, knowledge and know-how.
Such an easy transmission to work on.
Seemed like a no-brainer to me.
I'd re-use the blocking rings and shift dogs if they are okay.
