I am currently in possession of a t18 complete from bell housing to Dana 20. This is the wide ratio version with a 5 inch long adapter between transmission and bell housing. I am looking for advise or insight on how to eliminate this adapter to shorten the overall length.

    thanks

Do you know which T18? Jeep had em, Ford made em and so did Scout. I put one in mine years ago. Mine had the D20 connected. I have a 304. I remember I changed the input shaft and got a shorter bell housing.. I rebuilt mine as it was old. I kept my original Tcase, as it had low miles.. Do a search and look at Novaks site. I remember they had a ton of info there on T18's.

It is a jeep wide ratio T18 Thank you for that, I do understand that Novak has a short Input for my transmission. Is a new Input bearing cover needed as well, I would guess so.

It has been years since I did mine. As I recall the cover was ok to use.. I did rebuild mine so I installed the bearing. I'd check the number on your bearing as I ran into a bearing problem on mine. Seems Jeep used a few different bearings over the years. Not much difference but the width can vary. The number should be on the old bearing.

I did a conversion last summer with a jeep t18. Mine was from a 78 cj5. It did not use an adapter between the bellhousing and transmission. It had a 7 inch or so stick out. Very easy swap, in the end we were within a inch of the t86 we replaced. Did your transmission come out of a FSJ?

No adapter on mine between the engine and tranny. But as I recall I swapped to a T150 bell housing.. Which is shorter.. But don't quote me on that. I am old and my memory aint so good any more.. That said as I remember my 4 speed came out of a Jeep truck, maybe a J20. But I am not sure because I traded for it and it wasn't in a vehicle..
