Here is my top cover for the T18./T98 tranny. Can anyone tell me approximately the year and what my shift pattern will be?? Also if you look at the forks, i do not have provisions for the plastic covers that go on them, is it safe not to use them??

i can tell you it looks just like mine. but i bet there is something that im missing that makes a huge diff. if you want to know mine is normal shift pattern reverse is over and down, way down. i mean way way way down. IIRC nickmil told me i had a late 18. where is he?

Yup, that's the earlier model with reverse over to the right and towards the dash. The earlier ones like that didn't use plastic inserts like the later ones. The early ones had steel shift forks with the plastic coating, but seems like the vast majority have the coating worn off and they still work just fine. The real early ones didn't even have the coating. I can't remember for sure what year but seems like around '77 or a little later is when reverse changed to over and back. The later ones use aluminum shift forks and parts are getting a little expensive to come by, like the shift forks. (just for the top, the rest of the parts are easy to come by). That top looks just fine and I'd run it. The only thing I'd look at closer which can't be seen in the picture is check out the reverse spring. It's very common for these to break apart or collapse. It's not too terrible to replace one and can be had from a variety of sources that supply parts for the T-18. If you can rebuild the T-18, you can change the reverse spring. Nickmil.
