T14 To T15 Behind A Dauntless? Maybe A Dana 18 To Dana 20 Swap

I know it's just a 3 speed swap but the end goal is to drop in a ford fuel injected 302. Is there any way my t14 will just swap out for a t15?

Got a stupid good deal on a t15 and dana 20. I currently have a t14 and dana 18. I seem to remember that there was some oddity about my setup that prevented simple swaps but can't remember if it was the trans input or output spline count.

Maybe it's not worth the hassle but just thinking out loud. Need a d20 for the centered output to work with my waggy d44s.

There's no junkyard path without making an adapter. Ken (oldtime) has a thread on here somewhere about modifying the factory T-14 adapter to work with the T-15. Novak sells an adapter which is reasonable as such parts go. The T-15 works with the AMC bell, which has a different stickout than the Buick bell used through 1970. Ford bell depth is the same as the Buick. Novak has an article about adapting Ford engines to GM transmissions and vice-versa.

The best adaptation I have seen of this is friction welding the T-14 input shaft to the T-15 input shaft..

Ok so the same amount of work for the t15 to the dauntless as there is when I swap the motor.

So then is there any issue taking the dana 20 from the t15 and swapping it in place on my t14? Think my t14 has an odd output into the d18 so would it be possible to take the input from the 18 and put it in the 20 so that it works out?

You need an output gear with the proper tooth count and angle to match the Dana 20. I expect this would come from a '72-75 inline 6 with a T-14. The T-15 is 6 spline and the T-14 is 10 spline so no you can't use the T-14 gear. Novak has a table. The Novak Guide to Dana 18 & 20 Gears Interchange 1941-1979

I would point out that a T-14 is not up to V8 power. T-15 is, but not a T-14.

To me, I think you're on the right path with the T-15 and D20, if you are using Wagoneer axles. The only alternatives that are true junkyard swaps are a T-150 and D20 from a '76-79, or a T-176 and D300 from a '80-up. Both of those are Ford pattern and the right stickout for a Ford. The T-150 is somewhere between the T-14 and T-15 in strength.

Ok. Looks like I'm back to a complete drivetrain and axle swap I stead of intermediate steps.

Thanks guys. I have been reading through Novak for spline counts and sizes but wasn't sure if I could swap an 18 part into the 20 even if temporarily to keep my jeep on the road more while building. It's my daily. Guess I will keep gathering parts and do it all at once
