im looking a buying a cj5 with the stock t98 with f head in it. I would be pulling it out to go in my 3a. My question is, are the floor plans interchange able? Cross member in same place? Would it be a pain to install a T90 in its place and then resell the jeep?
    Thanks

It's pretty easy to put a T90 in place of the T98.
The CJ-5 floor pans are different yet they can be made to fit a flatfender jeep very well.
Or If you prefer you may customize your existing transmission tunnel area.

The CJ-5 will have an additional set of frame holes used to move crossmember 5-1/2" foreward.

You will need all the standard component to replace the special T98 components.
The front propeller shaft will not work for the flatties unless its shortened about 1".

As soon as it stops raining here I'll start building a 3B with factory T98-A parts.
Plan to document the build with lots of pics.

The only thing I can think if that might be a problem is replacing the floors in the CJ. As I recall, the factory cuts a chunk out of the 3-speed floors by the driver's feet to accommodate the 4-speed, and that's covered by the 4-speed floor plates.

For what its worth, I believe the M38 uses the same bolt-in floor center section as the CJ5, so there is a flat fender that has a removable transmission center floor. I expect the 2a and 3a could easily be "converted" to the same removable center floor section, making the T98 to T90 swap faily simple. All you would need would be an extra CJ5 center floor section, assuming you will be using the T98 center floor in the 3a.

If you get the chance go over to the 3A forum and see how Bob put Military or CJ5 floor pans in into X98...

Do I understand this right? A t98 CJ5 floor should bolt in to a M38 tub? With out mods? Also a stock t90 floor could bolt in place of the t98 floor?
    Thanks

    Hi Jay,
I'm currently in the process of putting together a 2A with a T98 behind an Lhead. I'll be making a floorpan to fit...

AFAIK the M38 and M38A1 and CJ-5 floor pans are nearly if not identicle.
When the T98 was put into a CJ-5 the transmission opening was basically cut wider with a pair of tin snips.
Then a different opening cover was put in place.
One can easily make something that looks as good or better than the factory T98 cover.
At one time I made a pattern of the original T98 cover.

Using uncut pans you should be able to convert right back to the T90 top cover.
