I was wondering if you can take the door tops off and the side windows off and roll up the rear window of a Bestop Supertop and leave the top up like a long bikini top so the kids don't get direct sun in the back seat of a CJ5, Will the rear corners hold it in place at highway speeds, Also can you run it like this but with the back window down and snapped or will it catch to much air that way. Never had a softop before except my MG MIdgets. Thanks T.J.

I always take the side and back windows off and hang them in the garage during the summer. I leave the lower doors on and stash the uppers behind the rear seat. That way I don't have to worry about damage my side and back windows and I can still put the top up and have some protection from the afternoon showers that are common here.
I've never drove with sides off and back on...I imagine it would catch a lot of air at speed.

Nah, I've done that plenty with mine, it's not as bad as you think. Didn't make any more noise than the top usually makes, at least in my estimation.

I don't have a top of any sort yet , but I think I'm going to start out with a Bikini once I'm on the road , at least to start with while I'm dialing it in . Once I get most of the bugs out of it I will paint it and do the seats over etc, I am pretty sure it hasn't moved under its own power since 1983 so I have lots to do first.T.J.

Only problem I ever have with the bikini, is just the flapping. At least on my jeep, it just spends most of the time on the highway bashing me on the top of the head.....

    Otherwise, I love it...

I have a Best top, and have no idea how old it is, it came with the Jeep. I have seen them both ways permanent windows and removable rear windows. I carry my top and doors, upper and lower with me in early spring and late fall, but carry only the top in summer for the shade. Sometimes a gust of wind will rip the Velcro lose and the top will bubble up, but it is old and probably needs replacing. Being an old motorcycle rider I just live with it if it rains. My favorite thing is no top and the windshield laid down riding around all summer, my dog doesn't have to put her head out the window, she just sits there and enjoys the ride.

Tigertop windows can't be removed. Supertop windows unzip. I used to pull the sides and rear window off mine all the time, never had a problem.

Sweet rig Chris, are those the Supertop door bottoms ? Does the Supertop rear window zip out or do you roll it up ?

All the windows zip out. Chris's pic shows the Supertop doors with the uppers removed.

Thanks! Yes to the door and rear window zip out question. Not a fan of rolling any plastic window up; scratching happens IMMEDIATELY! OBTW, the top is 22 years old...

Yes, rolling the windows up causes immediate damage. The Tigertop on my CJ2A is proof. I'll be replacing that top often because of it, but I have no choice

Granted, It's a huge pain in the arse, but I've had pretty good luck using Bestop's Cleaner/Polisher stuff on the windows in my supertop, and it seems to do a pretty good job of taking care of scuffs from rolling things up. You just have to actually *use* the stuff fairly often.
