Pulling to motor for a rebuild so while I've got things off, I'm thinking about having the starter and generator rebuilt. The starter occasionally spins out so it's been on the list for awhile. The generator seems to be running fine but after 60 years (it looks original) no telling.

For those who done it, do you find locals or should I send it off to someone who specializes in this old stuff?

No need to get into the alternator discussion as I'm planning on staying with the generator for now. Not planning to add any lights, stero, etc., just staying pretty stock.

I do local, so far they are still around. Have you asked your engine shop for a recommendation? Chances are they would know who to use.

Glen, got it all ready today but lost track of time so didn't get the engine lift picked up. Gonna pull it Monday and hopefully drop it off the same say. Was planning on asking him but want to do some homework in advance.

I just had a starter and generator rebuilt for a 56 locally for $100 a piece.

Find a dusty old shop down behind the railroad yard, if you can.

Worst case scenario, Hemmings Motor News is full of specialist ads, who can and will do anything - for a price.
