After extracting all the broken studs out of the block,I'm ready to replace the exhaust. If I use the Clifford header I got recently I'm thinking bolts with a locking washer? If I use the minty used stock manifold- Studs again or bolts? Any thoughts and past experiences will be much appreciated.

I prefer studs on exhaust parts myself. I can almost always get a nut off cleanly, given heat and patience. Cap screws rust up, round off, and fight harder.

If you use stainless bolts or studs on the exhaust all your problems will be eliminated, the heat causes condensation as the bolt or stud cools and then that moisture causes the bolts to rust, this is not a problem with stainless steel.

What Mike said. Remember that the end of the stud/bolt is submerged in coolant, and it will corrode inside the block. That is why so many studs shear off when you try to remove them. Go stainless, and use a good sealant on the end going into the block so you don't have a coolant leak. Oh, and use brass nuts on the outside if you use steel studs. ;)

I was just gonna say that too. Stainless studs with brass nuts. You should be able to remove them by hand in 20 years
