    Stock Heater *pic added*

SOOO despite the condition of the jeep I found the stock heater and blower motor were still under the dash (my '46 2A) I hooked it up to a battery and the danged thing took off and ran!!!!

I am assuming this thing is 6V, I always heard 6V stuff is generally heavier duty then 12V stuff... Would I burn it up running it on the 12V system, or should I put a resistor in place just before it? I know the starter on my dads 9N was 6V and the tractor people all told him not to worry about it when he converted it to 12V

Yup, they do spin up real nice on 12 volts don't they :)

But when you go from 6 to 12 the motor has to disapate four times the energy it does at 6 volts, I'm guessing it won't last long. A resister is an option but I havn't got a clue what the correct value & power rating would be :(. You'd have to measure the current draw & compute.

There was a thread not too long ago concerning the motors for heaters, I believe somewheres in there there was some discussion of a 12 volt unit that will fit the CJ2/3 heater. I have heard that NAPA also sells units that should fit.

Not even close to whats under my dash... it is a mini radiator (mounted perpendicular to the firewall) on the passenger side up under the dash, on the right side of the heater is the blower, I will try to get some pics. I figure if its there I might as well use it, we get some cold days up here. R)

If it's NOT stock it sure looks like it is.

What the heck, clean it up and repaint it, and go for it!

Oh, FWIW, NAPA has a big selection of small electric motors available. Take the old one in and ask to see the catalog, then look for a 12v motor that is a close match dimension-wise. Your motor is open and exposed, should be easy to find one that'll work. My motor has to fit in a very small can-like space, so size was critical. Couldn't find a replacement, so I had to have it rebuilt. It doesn't like 6v, but it trucks right along on 12v.

I plan on it... I just was wondering if I need the resistor in place or not... I guess I will do it just in case, though the motor loks like it may be a little newer, I guess I will pull it and make sure its not 12V already... it sure did spin up nice on 12V though R)

School Bus heater I have had several of them. Have two round ones now. Put out the heat. I've controlled them with a rheostat type switch I bought at NAPA.

Okay, school bus heater, that is what I will look for. I've been reading along thinking "mmmm heat would be nice when it does finally cool off" Its hard to think about a heater when the when it is so hot the clouds are melting.
